I am still getting requests begging me to donate money to Harris/Walz today. Only a bit more money will put them over the top. I’ve gotten at least a half dozen such requests today alone. First place, I know the campaign is rolling in money. Second, what are they gonna do with only two more days of campaigning. TV ads, too late. GOTV campaigns, if they’re not already organized and financed, it is too late to start. Are they just out and out scams having nothing to do with the campaigns at all/
Some may be scams (other PACs and sketchy political orgs), but the actual campaign itself will try and raise money every day through the next election - every dollar they raise today can be used for the next Harris or Walz campaign ('28 and maybe beyond). Not a scam, but probably not really helping the '24 race this late.
Who are the solicitations from? Where exactly are they asking you to send money? Political parties are always looking to build up their financial reserves by cashing in on an excited electorate, even if the election has already occurred.
Perhaps any excess raised now can be banked for use in the midterms or even the 2028 elections? So why Democrats are eager to contribute, try to grab what they can?
I get a lot of texts asking for money for political causes. I treat them all as spam, which for various reasons I believe they are, and block the numbers, but they keep coming.
They do need a war chest for legal fees if the election is disputed in the courts.
Exactly. Campaigns can hold onto funds raised for future campaigns.
Also remember that campaigns have dedicated fundraising teams of employees. So Harris’s fundraising teams aren’t just going to sit on their hands when they’re “done”, they’re going to take any and every opportunity they have to raise more money.
And I am sure that it will be disputed.
A half dozen?
I’m literally getting around thirty requests a day.
I’m getting them at the frequency of 1 per hour, and apparently things are looking grim, but $150 from me will turn everything around.
I guess they’ve already blown through the last couple of $150 donations I’ve given them that were supposed to be their salvation.
I’ve been pretty generous this election season, but I’m done — if she wins but has to defend her win from major shenanigans I may make another donation.
I don’t really get any. After I make a donation, I immediately unsubscribe from messages. I have had just a few from out of state, which I unsubscribe from when I receive them.
Does all this begging stop on Tuesday?
The campaign isn’t spending money based on what they have in hand – they’re spending based on what they expect to raise. It isn’t unusual for a campaign to actually end up in the red after all is said and done. A lot of the bills won’t actually come due until after the election is over, so they’re still fundraising in anticipation of those debts. And they’re pushing the urgency now because their ability to fundraise will fall off a cliff once the election is over.
This is also a big one. It is almost inevitable that there will be legal and procedural challenges to the election results in multiple states. They need to prepare for those expenses.
Yes. This same question was asked a week or so ago, and this was my answer. Inevitable GOP ratfuckery means the Dems need to have a couple hundred lawyers armed and ready across a dozen states. As I said previously, it would be difficult for the Dems to have too much money in this situation.
This.
Except I would substitute “when” for “if”.
Speaking as someone who was scammed by a ‘reputable’ blue organization, I advise caution. Contribute directly to the candidate’s campaign if you feel so inclined.
Trust no one.
That is all.
Exactly. Clicking on a link and providing credit card information or other means of transferring money, based on an unsolicited e-mail or text message, should always be considered risky. It’s terrible that the political fundraising system encourages this. Always find the primary source yourself, via reputable and verifiable sources.
The thing that triggered my question was the tone. “Kamala is in tears over the latest poll in, say, MI, and just $47 from you will make a difference.” Such BS.
