Was anyone as dismayed at Sunday’s Sex in the City episode on HBO as I was? I mean, I’m all for “groundbreaking” television, and I know that American’s are prudes and all that, but my god, discussions about “funky tasting spunk”? Am I out of touch, or do others agree that things are getting out of hand? (See, you can’t even suggest things are getting out of hand without sounding prudish, but, well, someone has to say it!)
I am sort of a prude, shelbo, but I loved that episode, and most of the others as well. I mean, I am not “that kind of girl,” certainly nothing like Kim Cattrall’s character, but frankly I was more shocked by the firefighter episode than this one. I thought it was funny and relevant - my girlies and I have had talks like that.
I laughed. I thought it was funny the way she made him taste it before she would “perform” for him again. That was hilarious!
[on topic hijack] Is the person who plays Samantha (Kim Cattrall, as posted by Nacho4Sara) the same person who played the mannequin in the first “Mannequin” movie? My mother and I swear that it is, but others disagree. I’m going to have to check the movie box at Video Vault next time I’m there. [/on topic hijack]
I was a little taken aback; not disgusted, but more of an “I can’t believe she just said that” reaction. Then I laughed, but even more funny was Charlotte’s response to the statement.
See, I had no problem with the firefighter episode. Something (hmmmm) about that scene made me react negatively.
A funny coincidence was that Kim Cattrall was eating dinner at Toscana in Los Angeles (Brentwood), two tables over from mine, just three hours before the show aired. (She looked really good – better from two tables away than on the show.)
And, in response to mouthbreather, sex in film or on TV is usually not a problem (as I said, it was something about that scene!); I’d trade a good sex scene for a killing any day of the week ;). Also, thanks for the welcome to the boards!
i thought that scene was hilarious, actually. i agree with shelbo. sex is much more interesting than violence. out of hand, maybe-maybe not. but there is an easy solution to it. anyone who doesn’t want to watch it, can just turn it off.
I think this one was the best episode yet. Mostly, for the other plots, though. The final scene of Carrie and Big (spoiler) in bed (/spoiler) was perfectly done.
I did think the funky spunk bit was a bit outrageous, but it’s not the first time I’ve been shocked by the show. I certainly don’t think it’s inappropriate. It is HBO, after all.
Good point. I don’t know which was more shocking - the funky spunk scene, or seeing Carrie in bed with Big, lighting up a cigarette, while her steady was busy resanding her floors!
By the way, does anyone know if her floor sanding guy was also in Northern Exposure?
Yeah, that’s Chris in the Morning as Carrie’s boyfriend. He’s gained a bit of weight, eh?
So, who saw tonight’s episode? Another good one, although the phone sex bit didn’t quite work as well as it could’ve.
I was laughing out loud for about five minutes when Carrie said that “Samantha was out of it for three days and turned into a different person: Charlotte.” (I’m paraphrasing.)
