Yeah - the sheep gag still does it!
Straying a bit from the OP, I find this video to be one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. It’s a send up of Hands Across America, We Are the World, and other 80s-era charity events and mixes in a lot of funny little bits and guest stars.
Pretty sure move TV shows were put out after 1985 than before.
First, 1985 is 37 years ago, not 30 years ago. Second, use the following Wikipedia entry. Count the number of television programs that premiered from 1947 to 1991. Then count the number that premiered from 1992 to 2022. It appears to be about the same:
Unfortunately, this isn’t a complete list. Can anyone find a complete list of the television programs that were shown in each year from 1947 to 2022? In any case, I have no idea how many individual television programs were shown in each year. I have no idea how many extremely funny television scenes were shown in each year. I have no idea if maybe we tend to think very old sketches were funnier because we’ve watched them many times.
I’m aware. 37 is half of 74 years, your number for the duration of television. Your argument being that since 30 < 37, the last 30 years is a minority of television. I’d be shocked if the last 30 years aren’t the overwhelming majority of all television.
IMBD gives 24,046 series before 1985 and 187,763 since
So, shocker, not evenly divided. In the last 30 the numbers are 32,796 vs 179,013.
O.K., then, if we go by the number of years, there have been more years from 1947 to 1991 than from 1992 to 2002. If we go by the number of television series, there have been more from 1992 to 2022 than from 1947 to 1991. So the number of television series per year has increased greatly. So why is the number of scenes given in this thread larger from shows up to 1991 than the number from 1992 to now? It might be because the people on the SDMB are old. It might be because older shows are ones we’ve watched many times and are the ones we first think of when we’re asked for our favorite scenes. It might be because the recent shows don’t have as many scenes in each show that are as funny. Who knows?
Two therapy ones:
Austin Powers: Scott and Doctor Evil at the group therapy session:
Old School: at the marriage counselor:
Someone earlier mentioned “The Goodies” which brought to mind a certain short sketch. (I can’t find it, so a description will have to do.)
Voiceover is, “So and so margarine - spreads right from the refrigerator”. And the scene is of a housewife opening a refrigerator door and being hit right in the face with a tsunami of margarine.
