Do you remember those purposely cheesy ads a few years ago (three? four?) for a science TV channel? Two guys dressed up as asteroids?
“Ahhhh! The atmosphere! Ahhhh!”
Yes! I loved those!
Love those PBS self-promos. Four I can think of off-hand that I love:
The aforementioned one, featuring a skunk running through a house. The family doesn’t seem to mind-it’s their pet.
Big Bird comes up to a young girl and takes her to fabulous places: the moon, the fall of the Berlin Wall, etc. The message seems to be PBS is more than just kids’ stuff, and it gets that message across.
A woman ties cameras to balloons, asking the receiver to take a picture of themselves. She then records the journeys on a map. I’ve actually thought of doing this myself.
A man is in a photo booth. When he gets home, he takes all the photos of himself, cuts them to make a flip book, then flips the pages so it appears he’s singing to an opera record.
There is an ad running currently. It opens with these two kids sitting on a curb. One kids is dressed normally. The other kid is dressed up Victorian style, he sitting next to one of those old bicycles with the huge front wheel and he’s eating nuts. Here’s the dialog:
Normal dressed kid “Hey you going to Tims party”
Victorian dressed kid "Tim sucks. You suck. I hate this bike. I hate these clothes. This town sucks…
Then a voice over Elegant Naysays love Emeral Nuts.
Cracks me up eveytime.
The Snickers Barky the Dog ad was really funny too.
I think the Friskies cat food commercial that starts by showing a house cat then a zebra. Then the housecat starts chasing down the zebra *Wild Kingdom * style. Then the commercial cuts to Friskies cans and packets on a log and then the cat is peeking up from behind and the commercial says something like unleash your cats’ inner beast.
I think the Friskies cat food commercial is pretty darn funny.
The commercial you see a housecat then a zebra. Then the housecat starts chasing the zebra in a Wild Kingdom style chase. Then the commercial cuts to cans and packets of Friskies on a log (or something) and the cat is peeking up from behind and the “narrator” says something like unleash your cats’ inner beast.
oops…sorry about the double post. I thought the first one got eaten ( :o )
My favorite is an old budweiser commercial.
It opens with a with powerful music and a chicken. The chicken proceeds to cross the road. After he has crossed the road we see a point of view shot of a chicken looking up at a budweiser sign. The next shot is of three old guys sitting on a porch, then one of the guys says, “well that answers that question”
That was a Discovery Channel ad. Gawd, that was funny. And yes, that was a series of ads.
There were also mosquitos. I distinctly remember that Gary Coleman played Partially Digested Fish #3 in one of those.
The one that cracks me up isn’t supposed to be funny. It’s for one of those Ionic Breeze air purifiers. It’s a low budget as-seen-on-tv type commercial, showing all the odor causing elements in the household, including “pet odors”. But somebody forgot to tell the cat they were going to be filming that day. Poor kitty comes around the corner and sees the camera… The look of shock on the cats face is priceless. It stares horrified at the camera for a couple of seconds, flips it’s tail in disdain, then casualy walks off.
I like the Sprite commercial where we see a woman serving her children some orange juice, mentioning how great it tastes. Just after, the cartoonish sun mascot on the bottle jumps out and says “It’s also great for you!” The woman and children basically act as you would if this happened in real life (terrified) as the sun chases them throughout the house plugging the product…
That and too many ESPN commercials to mention…
