Funny French Horn Concerto Song - who sang it?

I hope this will ring a bell with someone. I’m looking for the name of the performer and the title of a musical comedy skit I heard on the radio many years back. I think it’s a classic, because I heard it a few times. Basically, the performer sings this really funny song to the tune of Mozart’s French Horn Concerto. ( I think that’s the tune, but I’m not positive) Basically the song is about the misadventures of a french horn player and his french horn. Because of the speed of the melody, the effect is similar to the “Modern Major General” song by Gilbert and Sullivan. The frenetic pace adds to the humor of the piece.

Thanks!

Michael Flanders and Donald Swan. It’s on At the Drop of a Hat, I believe, although it might be At the Drop of Another Hat. In any case, you ought to invest in the boxed set, available on Amazon. com. Hours of entertainment!

I once had a whim and I had to obey it
To buy a French horn at a secondhand shop
I polished it up and I started to play it
In spite of my neighbor who begged me to stop.

If that’s the lyric, then Aholibah is quite correct.

The name of the song is “Ill Wind.”

Those are the lyrics! Thank you everyone!

No self-respecting F&S fan should be without the complete lyrics and piano accompaniment in The Songs of Michael Flanders and Donald Swann.

BTW, here’s the correct lyrics to part of the song that confused me and many others for years:

Are you sure about that ‘gorn,’ rowrrbazzle? I always heard that as ‘gone’ – as in he found that it was gone. Or do you mean he’s saying ‘gone’ but pronouncing it ‘gorn’ to force the rhyme? Otherwise, what does ‘gorn’ mean??

PS Nice to see a few other F&S fans around!
