It’s not new, unless you haven’t seen it. A narrator gets drunk, and then recounts a historical story. Famous actors mime the action. It’s vulgar, drunken, and I find it amusing. Am I alone on this? (NSFW language)
I find it absolutely hilarious. The show on Comedy Central is equally funny.
Love it, never miss it. And I tend to fact check, so I accidentally learn something in nearly every episode. I love how committed the actors are to sticking the stuttering and pauses for nausea.

Everyone I know seems to love Drunk History. I find it lame, prolly because I never really think the people doing the history lesson are drunk enough.
I prefer My Drunk Kitchen. Here’s one of my favorite episodes: Tacos.
She is awesome. I’d replace my best friend with her in a heartbeat.
My brother and his friends find it hilarious but then again, they’re all drinkers. To me it’s meh, maybe I can’t relate due to never being at that level of inebriation? Sometimes an episode will give me a chuckle or two.
What I’m wondering is how the comedians know such detailed history. I doubt every comedian is has a favorite part of history that they’re well-versed on. I was thinking that they give them some history to memorize for them to regurgitate later on when they’re drunk. Any other ideas?
If someone hired me to tell the story of Lewis and Clark, I’d grab a history book and brush up before getting hammered.
What makes you think they are actually drunk? It’s a tv show with writers and actors and scripts and whatnot.
I find most of them lame also. I think the only one I found genuinely funny was the Tesla/Edison one.
If they aren’t actually drunk then the show is pointless. At least originally it was definitely real drunks boning up some bit of history–drinking heavily and then trying to teach you what they learned. Its basically college.
They really are drunk. Very very drunk. They study up on Wiki or something before they re-tell their stories but they are 100% authentically plastered.
Source: I know people that work on the show.
If they aren’t drunk I’ve never seen a more committed group of relatively unknown method actors. Most of them are burping, stuttering, puking drunk with glassy eyes, slack jaws, smeared make-up and dumb expressions. Some get bitchy, some get maudlin, and others belt out off key songs. I can’t imagine any typically vain actor going that far for a role. Drunk. They are absolutely shit-faced drunk.
It should be noted that the only people drunk in the show are the narrators which are usually fairly low-level comedians (Jen Kirkman, Kyle Kinane, etc… but most are way less known than them even.) The acting done by the bigger name stars is done separately and they’re sober (ok ok, *maybe *they’re sober) and acting out the scenes as narrated.
If they aren’t really drunk, then that is some mighty fine puking acting going on. I think the host on the Comedy Central one is drunk too. Not as drunk as the narrators, but pretty damned tipsy.
Mildly amusing, probably because I love History in almost any form. I have a feeling, though, that I’d appreciate it a lot more if I got hammered myself before sitting down to watch it.
My teenaged daughter get a big kick out of sitting in the next room and listening to me comment on different TV shows whenever I’m bombed.
The Lewis & Clark episode was hilarious!
Indrians: “We’re gonna fuck your shit up!”
Clark: “We might need to be Dicks about this.”
