I used to thing Pokemon was giving lip service to the usual moral-of-the-story endings to their TV series. But I was mightily impressed when the hero (Ash) didn’t win the tournament that the entire series was building up to. Neither did his friends nor his new found friendly rival win the tournament. They were losers. But they accepted the loss graciously and were satisfied that they did their best.
Yeah, I’m 23, can’t draw, but love Pokemon. I’m registered with two Pokemon League sites and have more pokemon paraphernalia than can fit in my apartment. I’ve made my own pokemon cards and have handpainted Lego pokemon. I never rip off young citizens when trading cards and am always willing to help clarify the rules of the card game. I can write Pikachu’s name in japanese script and draw my own pokecomics. I bought a second GameBoy to trade pokemon between them.
But best of all I have a sweetheart that loves pokemon as much as I do. Otherwise, things could get awkward.
No, it means “monster in your pocket”. The basic idea comes from a traditional Japanese boy’s game of catching crickets and training them to fight, combined with a hint of old Godzilla movies. In the fictional world of the games and the cartoons, any pokémon, no matter how large, can be caught and held in a gadget called a pokéball (apparently based on a variant of the Star Trek transporter), which a pokémon master can carry in his pocket until he wants to let the critter out.

TIME did a big Pokemon expose a few months back (early october, I believe). Firstly, Pokemon is short for pocket monster - easy. Secondly re: digimon, Nintendo and Pokemon’s creator (an avid bug-hunter) released the first Pokemon games for the gameboy in 1996 in Japan (where it was huge). By the time it came to the US, there was almost 3 years of crap to market with it. SO… Digimon may have been the first to make it to North America (I don’t know if it was), but is much newer than Pokemon.
Awwww!!! Thank you SOOOOO much for drawing that picture! It’s so adorable! big hug I really didn’t think anyone would do it! Hehe, thanks.
As for the reason why, I’m just weird.
Farfetch’d! Fury attack! Kick this thread’s butt back to the top!
(I just can’t let a thread called “Funny pics of Jigglypuff” fade from existence. . . especially since I still don’t have Unicycling Team Rocket wallpaper!)
Heck yeah! At 26k it’s maybe not the best for wallpaper… Taken from the back of the Pokemon Party video case for… uh, review purposes. Take that fair use laws!
This tape has three top notch pokemon episodes: The Bridge Bike Gang: a glimpse into Team Rocket’s checkered past, Ditto’s Mysterious Mansion: featuring a super-cute Ditto and a girl too young for even Brock, and Pikachu’s Goodbye: The saddest, saddest pokemon episode ever. So if you’re ever only able to see the backs of the pokemon movies, you may select one using this information.
To top it off I wasted half an hour in Photoshop for nothing… Universal Pokemon Network has a whole page of screen captures, including the midair unicycling stunt. God bless the internet.
Neko, you rock! I’ll keep this in mind next time one of those “favorite poster” threads come along! You just earned yourself a truckload of brownie points!
hmm… . . my favorite is Farfetch’d. . . I’ve never seen the episode, but how could a duck that uses a green onion for a weapon not be cool. Guess what I’d like to see him doing? (hint: it ain’t wearing jeans)
There’s a japanese legend that says if you ever get lost in the woods and are starving to death, you will come across a bird you can eat. Such will be your fortune that he will be carrying a leek to flavor the dish.
