Funny songs to share

My first nomination is “Unworthy” by girl-with-guitar-extraordinare, Cheryl Wheeler. It just so happens that it is available for free download on Amazon.

Here are the lyrics.

My favorite bit:

A great song for the (self-imposed) guilt-riddled, multitasking world I tend to find myself in.

“The Sweater” by Cadell Meryn

Spoken-word. Lyrics here

“Monday…were the sweater…to school.”

Funny you should ask. Here’s my web page on the subject.

A verrry old funny song is The Man that Comes Around

I’ve never been able to find it on the web or anywhere else for that matter. My Grandmother had the record when I was little. I wasn’t supposed to listen to it, but, well, you know…

“There’s a man that comes to our house, every single day.
Papa comes home and the man goes away.
Papa does the work and Mama gets the pay
And the man comes around when Papa goes away.”

I don’t remember the verses, but they were about each of the deliverymen that “came around.”
The only snippet I can recall was about the milkman “I’d always have to hold his horsey outside the gate, 'cause he always stayed so awful long, the horse don’t wanna wait.”

I’m not normally one for funny songs but who can resist a song about a clueless mad scientist in love?

Skullcrusher Mountain - Jonathan Coulton (free mp3 from his website)

Favorite verse:

I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you
But I get the feeling that you don’t like it
What’s with all the screaming?
You like monkeys, you like ponies
Maybe you don’t like monsters so much
Maybe I used too many monkeys
Isn’t it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

Funny you should ask!

You can listen to some songs here.

I’m not usually amused by “funny” songs, but I did laugh at that and even almost like it.

This, plus a friend sending me Mandelbrot Set, has gotten me somewhat addicted to Jonathan Coulter.

Funny could be relative, but this is my new favorite song:

My favorite “funny” song by a mainstream artist has to be “Song for the Dumped” by Ben Folds Five.

It’s one that I think just about everyone can relate to.

[quote]
So you wanted to take a break
Slow it down some
And have some space
Well, fuck you, too!

Give me my money back, you bitch!"

Oh! And “Take the Skinheads Bowling” by Camper Van Beethoven.

God, my vB-fu is sucking tonight.

The Tiger Lillies’ Banging in the Nails and Hank Williams’ I’d Love to Knock the Hell Out of You are a coupla favorites of mine, right now.

And Tom Lehrer, of course. Gotta remember the classics.
