Furthest/Shortest distance you have moved home from to to?

Furthest distance: ~7700 miles (Cape Town, South Africa to South Florida)
Shortest distance: One of the moves within a city (I’m guessing the one within Sacramento, CA). The shortest intercity move would have to be Sacramento, CA to Berkeley, CA.

Shortest-1 block down the street. 414 (street name) to 464 (street name).
Longest- 6900 miles Virginia to Japan
2nd longest-4250 miles Florida to London

Longest would be from Toronto to Calgary: about 1700 miles.

Shortest would be between two places in Toronto. I’m unsure of the exact distance, but it would have been less than ten miles.

Shortest, one while in grad school; from a street block to the next. Honorable mention to moving from my mother’s house to an apartment 400m away.

Longest, not sure but the two options are “US East Coast” from/to “town in Spain”, so not much of a difference. Either of them is 3x the third longest: Spain to southern Sweden and back.

16,668Km and about 30m respectively.

Furthest would have been at the age of 2, from Sydney NSW to Leeds in England. Shortest would have between houses that were next to each other. So the ratio between the two moves would be about a million to one, which might be hard to beat.

Shortest: South Jersey to Philadelphia.

Longest: Philadelphia to Los Angeles

I live about three or four blocks away from my childhood home.

Longest move - approx 150 miles to and from college.

Moved several times in college. One I remember was just about 2 blocks. I made the move myself, making I don’t know how many trips carrying everything by hand.

I moved into the house directly opposite across the street - about 25 metres.

Furthest was when I moved from my home town to Schenectady after college, about 250 miles.

Shortest was probably a mile or so when I changed apartments a couple of times.

Longest:

8595 miles – Victoria TX to Cebu Philippines
5446 miles – Traverse City MI to Vina del Mar, Chile
4560 miles – St. John’s NL Canada to Amman, Jordan
2730 miles — Pacific Grove CA to Falmouth Foreside ME
2120 miles – Mobile AL to Salem OR

Shortest:
546 feet, Victoria TX, apartment to apartment

Oh, the shortest straight-line distance I’ve moved was from Lancaster, CA to Los Angeles, CA: 46 miles.

Longest, Evanston, IL, USA to Cape Coast Ghana, 5804 miles, more or less.

Shortest was within an apartment building, maybe 50 yards.

Farthest: Los Angeles, CA, to Bethesda, MD, when I was four years old.

Shortest: From one house to another in the same neighborhood. They were about 2 blocks apart.

(That’s not counting dorm room changes from one year to the next. Between first and second years at college, I moved one flight down and maybe six or eight rooms down the hall.)

My longest move was about 6 miles, from the house I grew up in to our apartment when we got married.

My shortest move was from that apartment to the house we still live in 23 years later. That was 0.6 miles as the crow flies, or 1.1 miles by road.

I have moved 3 times in my life:

  1. While in high school we moved about 3 miles across town
  2. When I got married we moved to a house in the next city to the east, about 10 miles
  3. After kid #3 we moved back to the original city, again about 10 miles

Oddly enough, the last move put us within a mile of the house we moved from in the first move. That’s an average of 7.66 miles per move with a net of .75 mile. I’m a regular globetrotter.
