Based on things posted in this BBQ Pit Thread about a prisoner who was allowed to die from appendicitis and some past history.
fushj00mang, I am a naturalized American citizen. In other words, I am proud enough of my country and love it enough to spend several months of bureaucratic hassle to become a full, participating member of it. My brother served honorably in the U.S. Army, and I tried to get into the Air Force but was turned down. I have immense honor and respect for the indviduals who serve in her military and who give up their lives, comforts and freedom to ensure that I might keep mine.
That said, I am ashamed that you, by your statements here and in other threads, denigrate those who serve. I’d say I’m ashamed that you’re a member of the same species I am, but I’m not sure I’m willing to grant you that much credit. How dare you say another person deserves to be denied medical treatment to the point where they die in pain? How dare you show the callousness and cruelty which you have in that thread? Kaylasdad99 said a lot of the things I wanted to, but that didn’t do much for my outrage, and I’d like the rest of the board to see you for the callous hunk of random chemicals you are.
Ye bloody Gods! People you deem unworthy deserve to suffer?! NO! No. Two days ago, a woman was raped a mile or so from my home by a passerby who lured her into an alley by telling her she had a flat tire. The man who did this is scum, but even he does not deserve to suffer in the way that kid did and the way you advocate. I won’t say “May you never suffer.” You’re fighting a war. You’re suffering enough. I will say, “May you never experience the kind of callous cruelty you so strongly advocate.” May you never know what it is to be helpless and in pain while those who are able and expected to help you stand by and do nothing. I have never been to jail, but I have been in that position, and I do not wish it upon anyone, not even you, furious though I am.
I have great honor and respect for those who serve in our military and I will continue to do so. I have none whatsoever for you, fushj00mang.
I’m a law and order sort of guy, and I very rarely have any sympathy for criminals, but I do for this guy. You have to. Once we incarcerate these people we’re obligated for their care, and this was a case of outright neglect. The nurse never even checked him, for Christ’s sake.
And you, fushj00mang, are condoning it. Unbelievable.
If you are to become an officer, I hope you learn some humanity, or you’re gonna have a hell of a time dealing with your subordinates.
Isn’t Fush the ‘person’ who claimed to be working with the local police to arrest people, in general violation of the armed forces being used to arrest civilians?
I seem to recall him not really caring if the people were guilty or innocent then, either.
Anyone who believed there was a redeeming feature to fushj00mang (and accidentally growing opposable thumbs doesn’t cut it) is encouraged to read his first post in this thread: link.
My granola-eating hippy mom used to subscribe to the notion that people who served in the military were irredeemable assholes who signed up because they were sadistic apes who loved to kill, weren’t smart enough to care for themselves without a drill sargeant yelling at them when to take a piss, and cared nothing for humanity, just whatever accolades being cogs in the heirarchy could get them.
If she had ever met fushj00mang back then, she might never have changed her mind on that subject.
fushj00mang is obviously the best thing to happen to the military’s PR since “Operation Get Behind The Darkies”.
People who go to prison can, and do, change for the better. People who are “scum” one day may not be so down the road–this is especially true with kids. No human is “subhuman.” Doing bad things is part of the game for everyone, although some people certainly screw up with a much greater magnitude.
I hope that, if Fushj00mang ever draws the ire of our society’s justice system, the people who deal with him have more compassion then he does.
and more bluntly, most folks who are incarcerated will be released some day. Just what exactly do you suppose will be the result if during the years of incarceration, the prisoner is subjected to inhumane, cruel and torturous treatment?
Not to mention the effects during the incarceration on the guards (their job will become infinately more dangerous, as well as the potential for psychological harm done to a human being forced to administer torture)
Now, I’m no admin/mod, and I know I can’t tell you how to post, and I really do respect that. That being said, can we pah-LEEZE let this subject die already?
AirmanDoors and Bluesman, are there means in place whereby a serviceman can pass on information regarding the character of a prospective officer candidate? And Lynn, do the rules of this board permit the release of a real name when the honor of this country requires it? Because I would definitely have a major objection, as a citizen and taxpayer, to having any of my tax dollars go towards training this person as an officer at taxpayer expense. And I question strongly whether he has any business in the Air Force at all.
As an American citizen, he has a right to his opinions, however vile and callous they may be. And he has the responsibility to bear up under what the consequences of expressing them may be. And IMO, those consequences ought to involve separation for conduct unbecoming a member of the Air Force, as evidenced in that thread. And at a minimum he is not fit to be a commissioned officer.
Or a member of this board, IMO. I have a hard time belieiving that anyone expressing such obviously inflamatory opinions isn’t doing so simply to get a rise out of people. This isn’t the first time, for fushj00mang. Seems nearly everything he says is suspiciously troll-like.
Poly, I too was wondering what appropriate action would be here, since this individual has made no effort (and indeed, one might say has almost reveled in it) to hide his … distaste for Amendment 8? His lack of regard for it? However it’s phrased, the point remains that he is not, whether only in words (and one wonders where else), upholding the Bill of Rights, esp. wrt Amdmt 8. I shudder to think what those potentially under this individual’s command will learn about the laws of the country they have sworn to protect … by one who has no plan to defend against those who would allow for cruel and/or unusual punishment to be carried out by this country’s federal or state governments.
As I type this, behind my should hangs a framed collage of photos of my father and his three brothers. They all served in World War II, and the pictures are of four smiling, handsome young men in their dress uniforms:
Harris, who served in the Army Medical Corps.
Donald, who as a pilot flew “The Hump” in Burma.
Austin, a combat engineer in the Pacific Theater.
Norman – my father – who served as a fire controlman on a destroyer, and lived through the unimaginable hell of D Day.
They brought honor to the uniforms they wore and the country they served. fush, you bring disgrace.
Good point. So we have two options: troll, or asshole. Don’t think that at the Mods’ Fortress of Solitude there are not deep epistemological discussions going on even now about whether there is a coherent difference between “asshole” and “jerk.”
I await their revelation of their views with bated breath.
I agree that he’s an ass, and I agree that he deserves the written just deserts he’s getting in both this thread and the referenced one, but I disagree that it should go so far as to contacting his place of employment for speech with which we disagree. Outside any poster actually admitting to the breaking of a law, is this really a precedent that you want to encourage?
He’s slimey, yes. His silly boasts; his over-the-top expectations of respect for him just because of his job; his braggadocio-styled stories; his reprehensible opinions–they all annoy me and, at times, fairly disgust me. But seeing as he’s just expressed his opinions and hasn’t actually acted upon them, I don’t think he should be punished outside this board–and only then if he’s actually trolling.
I’m afraid of opening flood gates that would be difficult to shut again when it comes to attempting to cause grief for someone in the real world because we don’t like what they say here. If we start with fushj00mang, with whom do we stop? And would it throw a monkey wrench or two in our well-loved machinery of open and honest debates? (Or, at least I feel that’s for what we strive.) If the admins pass word along to fushj00mang’s superiors so as to get a real-world reprimand, how long before we have other posters attempting to get the same treatment for other unpopular posters?
Overall, I think that going outside the board for this would be way over-the-top.
Part of his job will be not only to ensure that his subordinates uphold and defend the laws of this land but to be an example to them by doing that same thing.
He has shown in the cited thread that, not only does he have no intention of doing the second in the future, he brazenly does not so do now. And I am furthermore (though perhaps this is just a personal thing) not so sure I want in the military someone who regards his enemies and criminals as "it"s, not worthy of so much respect as to assign them the human element of gender. He is working to ensure the freedom of all Americans, including the teen cited in the OP in the other thread. Because of thought eerily similar to his (if not identical) borne out in action as detailed in the other thread, an American citizen is dead.
You sure you want someone with such a lack of respect for human life defending yours?
