Fushj00mang, I Am Ashamed

How much of the other thread did you read? You can almost see him putting cotton balls in his ears, metaphorically speaking, so as to avoid the logic, reason, factual information and other useful orts of knowledge tossed his way. There’s the world according to rational humans and the world according to fushj00mang, and apparently never the twain shall meet. Except here, of course, but then this place has had its share of folks who were drug in by the cat, then summarily drug back out.

I’m going to post the same thing in both this thread, as well as in the thread that has become my second pitting. It is the last you’ll hear from me for a while, because while I hold the vast majority of this board’s users in high regard, I will not attempt a dialogue with individuals who’s moral standard include insulting, degrading, and then threatening an individual simply because their beliefs diverge (however narrowly or greatly) with another’s.

With that said…

I would like to apologize to anyone who I personally attacked for airing a differing opinion to mine. Rereading my replies within the thread, I note that I need to apologize nobody for attacking their personal ideals.

I would like to apologize to anyone I offended (which seems, at last count, to be roughly a third of the active board) with my choice of language. My opinion stands unswayed, but upon reflection, I do believe that I might have been better served if I’d used some tact in my choice of language.

And finally, I would like to thank all of my detractors (whom over the course of these two thread have called me (in order) asshole, cavedweller, hateful, sadistic, pathetic, attention-seeking, a shit, callous, dumb, disingenuous, a sanctimonious piece of mule shit, a stupid piece of shit, a raging asshole, trollish, a drooling moron, a liar, an enemy of the United States Constitution, a mercenary, a dishonor to the uniform, a drug user (paraphrased from Honey’s ‘bong’ comment), a disgusting bag of flesh, a first-class asshole, lacking in all common decency, piece of shit such as you, implied that I will either become or cause mentally disabled/homeless/addicts/average veterans, a dumb ass, a lousy waste of flesh, a twisted piece of horse manure, a mass murderer (by implication. BTW, I ain’t on the level of Lieutenant Calley. I respect non-combatants, until they start shooting,) a fucking idiot, a primordial swamp-crawling pustule-infested brain-deficient bag of mother-fucking cuntswill, flat, dull, thoughtless, dim-witted, half-baked, a total asshole, lilliputian, stupid, our resident moron, an asshole (again), mindless (or braindead, depending on interpretation of a sentence,) a disgrace, an artichoke (?), a douchebag, and moronic, then threatened my career in another thread). You remind me why I’m here, and why I think the way that I do.

Oh, and to whomever it was that said he or she felt bad about the first Iraqi kid I ran across, well, I’m teaching him English. He’s teaching me how to play soccer. I think it’s a fair trade.

Yours,

SSgt. Franklin Jenner Mang, Jr. (USAF)

I think you’ve succinctly summarized the entirety of our disagreement here. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the oath you took defending, among other things, Amendment 8, which amendment you seem to either toss aside or outright deny its existence. Nothing at all. It also has nothing to do with your callous disrespect for human life.

When you start teaching that Iraqi kid numbers, remember to skip 8. It never was a very important one anyway, and I’m sure his time under Huissein’s regime had no cruel or unusual punishment experienced … especially not if his father was on the Iraq Olympic Soccer team.

Dear Sergeant Jenner.

I respect those in the military. My fiance served in the military and was a comat medic. Her own father died while serving in the military overseas. He was a patriot and an honourable man, as is my fiance. Within my own immediate families lineage, there are also those who’ve served in the military. It’s an occupation and a choice that I respect deeply.

Your opinions are your own. You are also allowed to state those opinions as you choose. However, you hold a position of respect, and as such should conduct yourself in an appropriate manner. Your post and subsequent posts regarding the senseless death of an american citizen have shown your mindset is anything but commendable. This is why those people who have spoken to you and are shocked at your comments have responded as they have.

You speak or honour and respect as though you understand them and the value they ultimately convey. However your opinion is diametrically opposed to the words you use, so as such it’s confusing. Do yourself some good and reconsider your opinion and stance, and reconsider others also, because they hold much merit, and if given due consideration, actually showcase what it is that you and others are indeed fighting for, here and overseas.

My family members, my fiance, and her father, fought and died for something very important. You too, do the same thing. Your opinions say differently. Address that.

Regards,

John Shellshear.

I’d love to see fushj00mang post at least a partial list of exactly which posters he holds “in high regard,” just so they can post about how absolutely mortified they must feel to be held in any sort of esteem by such a miserable excuse for a human being.

Not to mention, I’m troubled by the lynch-mob mentality that occassionally rears its ugly head here, whereby some Dopers actually lobby for banning. Unless a person is an obvious troll or a sock, I see no reason to lobby for banning of anyone. And in such cases, mods are generally on top of it quickly, so there really isn’t a need to lobby in those cases either. Lobbying for banning is in poor taste at best, it’s downright unjust at worst, IMHO.

Meanwhile, the rest of us would like to see you get over yourself.

I’d like to add as a disclaimer: I found fushj00mang’s opinion in the original thread to be extremely fucked up and unjust as well, and I agree that it does not jibe with the ideal of upholding the Constitution in a sense. However, his opinion, and indeed his actions, are not treasonous, therefore I think it’s going overboard to suggest he be outed to his superiors.

Finally, (I will get this right in one post one of these days) I’d like to replace “unjust” here with “arrogant.”

Ah, another young, dumb, and full of come asshole who thinks he knows all the answers and has the world by the balls. Maybe it would do his humanity some good to actually be forced to kill someone up close and personal. Problem is that someone would have to die to teach him humility.

I once knew a man who was part of an artillery battalion in Vietnam. Got shelled all the time, but never had to face close combat. Until one night, when the VC penetrated their perimeter, and set off a flare trap.

He picked up his M16, found a target, led him, and put 6 rounds right through him. After the VC patrol was eliminated, they locked down the position until morning, when they went out to repair the wire/ get rid of the bodies, etc. He walked out and found the guy he’d killed. 15 or 16 years old, and had exsanguinated. The kid was cold, stiff, and gray.

He told me the story under extreme influence of alcohol one night. He’d never told anyone before. He felt so dirty, ashamed, cruel, and brutal for killing the kid. It brings him awake in the middle of the night to this day. His life is still tainted by that night even now, 30 years later, despite the fact that he did it to defend himself and his unit, and because he was trained to.

I hope that when you’re forced to send a high-speed projectile through some poor bastard’s major organs, and you see what you’re responsible for, it will make you a better person.

I have my doubts.

How was that post of Miller’s in any way self-serving? I read it a couple times, but I just don’t see it. I think you might be reading just a bit too far in between the lines, there.

You know, you’re cute when you’re irrational.

Fushj00mang, I stand by my calling you “callous” and “cruel”. Indeed, I do not see how being in favor of a person dying in pain while people who are morally and legally obligated to help stand by and do nothing simply because that person was arrested to be a very good example of callous and cruel behaviour. I’m not calling for your banning or for you to lose your job. Neither of those is my call. I do hope you will look at what people have said of you and what your posts in the other thread said of yourself and at least reconsider your position. I also know that even if you do, there will be far too many people like you who remain as you are.

I also wanted to try to get it through to you how much your attitude offends me. You see, just as some people can be set off by a mere suggestion of homosexuality, so cruelty and callousness are among the greatest sins a person can commit. I grew up defending my best friend from cruel people; I see no need to stop fighting cruelty now. You, sir, are cruel and callous, at least in my opinion. Unlike the prisoner in that thread, no one has denied you the time to change.

Wait, now he’s a Registered User, not a Member? What is that?

I don’t necessarily think that he should be banned just for being an asshole. That would be pretty damn totalitarian. He just needs to learn to temper his posting style a bit.

Good gracious, no! If people got banned around here merely for being an asshole on one or another occasion, the herd* would be thinned near extinction!

Unless, of course, that’s the new strategy for dealing with the board’s overload…

*Myself included.

Yeah, i was as critical as anyone of him in the other thread, but i don’t see that he deserves to be banned, nor that we should go about trying to have him fired. That would set a pretty troubling and dangerous precedent. When someone says stupid crap on these boards, i think it’s enough that he or she gets roundly abused for the trouble, which is exactly what happened in the other thread and in this one. The whole incident has left him something of a pariah on this message board. To the extent that this constitutes a punishment, i think it’s sufficient. Calls for banning or for real-world consequences are a bit much, IMO.

What, you mean “all the time”?

I normally don’t go and reply to the train wrecks but I just wanted to add: I’m sure many people feel somewhat like what Fush has mentioned. When I read about a slime-ball perp getting air conditioning and cable TV in their cell it does bother me a little. And while I might not scream for their death (well, except a few cases) I can see where Fush is coming from.

That said you guys need to fucking chill. Calling him a worthless human being over an opinion that Fush will never be able to excercise? Folks, Fush isn’t exactly in a position to brainwash others into believing what he’s said. His point might not be popular but from what I can tell Fush has probably done more “good” than “bad” in the world and I don’t see why people are screaming obscenities over a fucking opinion.

This sort of lynch mob mentality is exactly why witches were burned, and innocent black people were hanged. Fine, fire back at fush (in a non-physical sense  ) with why he’s wrong but simply calling him a worthless human is just name calling and doesn’t help your side a bit (something anti-bush people need to fucking learn).
