Futurama 7/22/10

Another great episode, although I found the “A” story incredibly predictable…

Hermes was Inspector #5, that couldn’t have been more obvious, 30 seconds in I figured out that plot point

It had a lot of great gags;
Leela expecting Hermes filing duties to be easy “just file according to A B C” and the first letter was in Alien Language 1…
Bender’s “Cylon-esque” ability to download into a new body at death (sadly, left out due to a hardware defect)
the trigger-happy Killbots (Wait he said Kill! <machine gun fire ensues>)
the callbacks to Hermes’ limbo abilities and Zoidberg’s defensive ink abilities

aside from the predictable “A” story, I thought this one was one of the best episodes of the reboot

It’s a calculator. I ate it to gain its power.

Too much paper, not enough hiding-plant!

I loved the Adobe Photo Shoppe gag, and the X lighting up like Hollywood Squares!

I liked it.

“I don’t see how. …”
“Did he say ‘howitzer’?”

I liked it.

“I don’t see how. …”
“Did he say ‘howitzer’?”

Also, ¡Ay! Cantina Turner.

And a reference to last week’s episode - “Last week, I was in Italy.”

And Bender, “C’mon, let’s get brick-faced.” In place of “shit-faced,” since Bender shits bricks.

“Thanks to denial, I’m immortal.”

Loved it. Great gags, great callbacks. My favorite of the new season so far, though I could have done without them hammering home the “agent 5” point at the end. If they’d just shown the burning folder, and then show the adorable reason that Hermes quit working at Mom’s, it would have been way better.

Still, very good. Loved Leela losing control of Planet Express.

<-another person that thought this was the best episode of the reboot

Same here - best episode of the reboot. Despite the sappiness, the episode had heart, which some of the rebooted episodes have been lacking.

Just watched it again (I have my ways…) and it’s even better on the second viewing…

The “Rubix Cubicles” in the Central Bureaucracy
Mom’s “That’s what you get for calling Tech Support!” line (note to self, design a line of Killbots to perform on-site “repairs”…)
Bender’s chest-cabinet seems to have been built with TARDIS technology, and has the ability to hold just what the plot needs at the time (a replacement pair of legs in this case) maybe it’s also got Star Trek (oops, I said the forbidden words!) Replicator technologies as well…

The “Sith War” was a rather “meh” start to the show, thankfully, it was over quickly, and I for one, welcome our new Sith overlords (can I get one of those cool double-bladed lightsabers, perchance?)

The robot immortality thing seems completely made up on the spot (opposed to other plots like Nibbler freezing Fry, or Leela being a mutant), but I guess it works for the most part. At least we can assume now that Flexo wasn’t permanently killed off in episode 603.

I asked this in the last episode thread but never got an answer…

My tv hates comedy central and I can’t ever record it. Is there anywhere to watch these online??

I don’t know why but this was my favorite line of the episode. I kept laughing about it long after would be normal. I guess I really like meta humor.

I don’t think so. Comedy Central took their shows off Hulu to put them on their own website. And their website just has clips from the new Futurama’s.

I loved this episode.

Baby Bender is so cute.

The Rubix Cubicle. Especially when that one guy goes flying out of his cubicle and everyone screams as it turns.

Bender speaking spanish. “Oucho” and the guard who lets them into Mexico saying, “I would’ve also accepted a bribe.”

Huh. A lot of people seemed to really like this episode. I thought the first 10-15 minutes were kind of ‘‘meh’’ (I like the pile of dead bears for some reason, though.) It got a lot better once they went to Mexico – I always forget that Bender is Mexican.

And yeah, I figured out the Hermes plot-point pretty quickly.

‘‘Mexico, silver medalist in Mexican-American war’’ tee-hee.

Also, loved ‘‘Fábrica robótica de la madre’’ (though I think the actual title was even longer… it was a total shot at how inefficient Spanish can be.)

And the little lizard, I loved the little lizard. I love Mexico in part because there are little lizards everywhere.

I kind of think the episode without Mexico would have been kind of lackluster. But Mexico saved it.

In case anyone is curious…I answered my own above question. I remembered watching the first episodes online because of a link in the original forum.

Has all the eps on it.

I liked how Bender said he was putting Hermes on the “do not kill” list.

This was a great episode, definitely my favorite of the new season. Lots of funny gags. My favorite was mentioned above: “It’s a calculator. I ate it to gain its power.”
