Futurama; S07E12 "The Mutants Are Revolting" SEASON FINALE (open spoilers)

I liked it. This is going to have a pretty big impact in future episodes now that mutants are all allowed on the surface. The Turangas will probally keep living where they are, though it would make for a funny ep if Leela manages to convince them to move to the surface, they end up her neighbors, and she hates it.

I missed the first five minutes. Can somebody recap how Fry caused Leela to be sent to the sewers?

guest stars in the show for 5 seconds with no importance to the plot just for the sake of having a famous guest stars

Maybe they have shown it before but its the first time I noticed “CITIHALL”

They were at a fundraiser and Leela got into an argument with Mrs Astor (the grande dame of NNYC), Mrs Astor made bigoted remarks about mutants, Leela stormed off, and Fry accidently let it slip that she was a mutant and tried to cover it up by saying “But if anybody asks she’s an alien.”.

Who was the guest star? The voices all sounded like the regular cast members.
I’ve only seen select episodes (and all the new ones) but I thought there was one where Leela was in an orphanage and was the last of her species? How does that fit with her being a mutant & having a family?

She assumed she was the last member of an unknown race, but it was revealed in a later episode that she was the daughter of mutants that had placed her in the orphanage so that she could avoid the stigma of being a mutant kid.

The background is that aliens have a higher status than mutants (as this episode showed). So Leela’s parents left her at an orphange as a baby so she would be raised as an orphaned alien. Leela herself grew up thinking she was an alien and tried unsuccessfully to find her home planet. She didn’t find out she was a mutant Earthling and her parents were alive until fairly recently.

Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo, as himself…well as himself as a mutant.

Did anyone notice the abandoned tin of anchovies in the sewer?

I wouldn’t say I loved it, but I really liked it. It wasn’t a throwaway plot, it was funny and had some sweet moments and…

If ANYONE deserves to be on Futurama for its 100th episode, it’s DEVO. What a perfect match, complete with a spud reference!

Not all that recently.

Leela’s Homeworld.

Season 4. February 17, 2002.

By the way, Comedy Central is saving one episode for the holidays. “Holiday Val-U-Pak” will air sometime in December.

Not a bad episode, but I’m getting tired of Futurama stories where something so drastic and shocking happens, they obviously have to twist their way out of it at the end of the episode. This week Fry was horribly mutated, last week he was briefly thought to be vapourized, etc. After a point I don’t really feel for the characters, I’m just waiting around for the deus ex machina and wondering what form it will take.

Edit: Has a recurring character ever permanently died on Futurama? I can’t think of any…

I agree with this week but I don’t think last week was such a deus ex machina. In the beginning of the episode they showed that the Professor’s “death ray” was really just a cheap transporter that he sells in the back of comics.

I thought it was a good episode, but they telegraphed the ending when they found the passenger manifest in the safe. I knew right then that Mr. Astor had survived the sinking of the Land-Titanic and had become a mutant. That’s the only way Mrs. Astor would have accepted the mutants. It was a surprise that he had merely enveloped Fry and that Fry did not mutate. As for a cheap out, well if Fry had become a mutant, the Professor would have merely invented a machine to change him back, or the Globetrotters would have figured something out. His mutation wouldn’t have been permanent no matter how you look at it.

I did like the sight gag of Mrs. Astor reading “Now, Dowager.”

I thought this was the closest Fry has been to his old Futurama self. I laughed at him more than most weeks. It was a good episode overall, I think they needed this season to get into the groove, if and when they get a new season (any word on that?) I think they will get better and better.

Hated the ending. I agree that I was just kinda waiting for the stupid way of making everything ok, but it seemed like they ran into the “oh we are out of time…finish it!” problem. Having Mrs. Rich-what’s-her-face suddenly just say “ok!” it annoying to me. Lots of “equal rights” eps this season huh?

I did like “Did you know I have a crush on Leela?” followed by the slap.

You’d think these people in the future would have learned to stop naming things Titanic.

“That’s one hell of a bus!”

Futurama is getting to be as preachy as South Park, but with more science and less stupid libertarianism.

The dance at the end rocked.
