Gah! What are you getting your man?

I’m having a tough time this year trying to figure out what to get my boyfriend for Christmas. I think I’ll get him the first season of Survivor DVD. I want to get him a couple of other things, but I’m at a loss! I need ideas!

What are you getting your boyfriend and/or husband for Xmas this year people??

Crap, I dunno. I’ve only been dating him for a few months and he’s so busy at work I hardly ever see him - we’re definately not “serious”. I’m thinking “bottle of wine”, but he actually cares about wine and his wine tastes are a little different from mine so I’m not sure exactly what to get on the wine front. I’m hoping we go out for dinner sometime soon and get wine we like so I can get him that.

My son got me a really nice wine opener last year. One of those like waitors use with the built-in foil cutter. I aready had some plastic ones, but this one is really nice.

My dad has dozens of wine openers. And those things you use to suck the air out of open wine bottles. And wine charms. And a Wine Companion booklet. And a wine brick. Argh !

Men in my family are so hard to shop for !!

A wine brick? I’m almost afraid to ask.

I can’t post what my husband is getting for Christmas, because he’s nosy and will read this post. Bad husband! No cookie!

I’ll email it to you if you really want to know, though.

I about made my self sick searching the Internet, but I found a game boy advance for a very decent price on ebay, Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls on Amazon, and I’m going to hit all the local used game stores in my area to snag a copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Adreas.

He’s easy.

Wish I had a clue. So far he’s getting slippers. I’m open to suggestions. I may get him a game, but then I might be accused of getting him something that’s more for the family. I really wish I could think of something.

Wine brick: dunno, that’s what my dad’s always called the clay wine-bottle-shaped container that you put in the freezer, then when you take it out you put your wine in it and it stays cool. Perhaps he’s made up the name to impress us.

Y’know … dads …

Husbands, on the other hand … I think he’s getting boxer shorts, again.

I’ve got him season 1 of Futurama. I’m not sure what else to get.

I’m getting my BF an iPod Mini or something similar. In pink, just for laughs.

A cashmere sweater. I was very lucky this year; he let that slip out about a month ago and I pounced on it. Usually I have no freakin’ idea. My second choice was a wine opener with two “steps” on it instead of the usual one. I hope you know what I mean, because I don’t know how to explain it very well. (The notch that catches on to the rim of the bottle.)

I’m getting Mr. UrbanChic a Palm Tungsten E, a couple of video games, some clothes (cords and sweaters) and a robe.

I was baffled too, until my friend told me what she was getting her husband yesterday. Satellite radio! He’s mentioned it before, and probably thinks I wasn’t listening, but I ran out and got it last night. He’s going to love it with as much time as he spends in the truck.

WhyDad’s getting the game Scene It and a new belt and some dress socks. Pretty damn boring, but it’s a lean year at the WhyHouse. I really, really wanted to get him a keyboard (selfish gift - I like to hear him play) but the finances didn’t pan out. Maybe for his birthday.

A great man-gift is a Leatherman Micra. It’s an incredibly well-made small pocketknife that goes on your keychain. I have one and love it.

Strong Bad DVD set ( http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbdvd_promo.html )

A Homesar t-shirt (“I was raised by a cup of coffee”)

Katamari Damacy ( http://tinyurl.com/5vslp - goes to Best Buy)

and that’s all because we’re buying some furniture as our “gift” this year. The other is just so we have a couple of wrapped things to open. It’s kinda hard to wrap a bed.

We’ve been together for about 9 years now, so…

On December 34rd, I’m taking him to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at the Pepsi.

A monitor (really, he asked for this one!)

A game.

And a couple of the things we always exchange, a calendar, and an ornament. The ornament is really cool, it’s a fishing pole with a lure attached to the end of it.

For both of us: The next season of Ranma 1/2, if it’s still in stores.

$100 gift certificate to Best Buy, some cigars from a nice cigar shop, and a chair thing that plugs into the car cigarette lighter…it provides heat, which which will help his back.

Forget wine or accessories … go for complementary things. Nice cheeses and crackers and grapes - a cheese board (marble) and a couple of nice slicing serving knives.

Big bow. Or just bow-tie the pillows. Had a friend do the bed in our honeymoon hotel room up with tissue paper in the shape of a heart.

Ramit is going to get a toy I gave him a few years back - a dog collar on a submarine, with a tag that reads “good for one subwoofer” as our subwoofer (for which the toy was originally exchanged for) died recently.

Other than that, we’ve been doing furniture lately, too, so little things: a couple of ties to spruce up his interview wardrobe, a couple of DVDs, the Jon Stewart book.

My former man is easy, anything star wars worked great. Barring that, anything gadget-y, particularly computerwise.

Depends upon what he likes, a former boss was easy to shop for since he home-brewed. So mugs, books, that sort of thing worked well for him.

If all else fails, homebaked goods have never failed me yet
