Gah! What are you getting your man?

Hey, great suggestions you guys! Before I came back to this thread, I finally decided what i was going to get him. Along with the Survivor DVDs, I found (online) a beer shop that stocks beer from a selection of microbreweries out in California, and they deliver. So I’ve ordered him some beer that he’ll like. Also I’ll get him some nice cigars.

Oh, in case you’re interested in the beer website:

Uhmmmm…did you mis-type this?

Actually, Evil Captor is probably getting as life-like a mannequin as possible. I figure it will make a great toy and generally be lots of fun after we get out the camera, the props and things. Thank goodness for ebay!

Comes under the heading of “Toys for Boys”

Mine is getting a new gaming PC built by yours truly.

I bought my dad some Macallan’s scotch for his birthday. I swear in all my 32 years that I’ve never seen his eyes light up like that before. He was still clutching the bottle possesively when I left the party.

I’m getting the SO a gorgeous gray cashmere sweater, an engraved silver money clip (his special Christmas request), and maybe some Courvoisier. Also, a new ski cap since he managed to lose the one I got him for Christmas last year.

Dad is getting the Lord of the Rings Trilogy box set and a good bottle of wine.

Does anybody else have the problem of having a guy who just isn’t really into stuff? (I found a bottle of wine we really liked at a restaurant once - so it’s a committment-free gift in a sense but also a “memory of us” gift if he wants to interpret it that way. Which he won’t.) He’s already got the stuff you need for wine, and he just dosen’t seem to be all about other “stuff”. Although I don’t know how he feels about cheeses - I’d love to get somebody the cheeses in the Williams Sonoma catalog, but I don’t know if that’s his sort of thing.

The guy dosen’t do anything but work. Work work work. He never has any free time to do anything and if he did it wouldn’t be anything I could know how to get him. Argh!

Besides, I can’t give him a too “couply” gift or he might freak out.

I just got myself some gloves because I needed a pair.
Cashmere lined, leather.
These things are awesome. I’m never cheaping out on gloves again.

I got my boyfriend a 17" LCD monitor for his computer. We’re getting my dad opera tickets, and his dad is getting a 3 month subscription to Robert Parker’s wine reviews.

Sounds like he spends a lot of time in the car. Satellite radio?

If you’re into giving gift certificates, there is always
wine.com . The have all sorts of wine and accessories, and it’s not too “couply” a gift, either. He can choose his own wine, or accessories if he needs them, and it’s still a nice gift.

Mine is getting:

[li]a new Leatherman Wave, since he lost the old one in Tampa Bay[/li][li]a new robe[/li][li]a nice shirt with deer on it[/li][li]a new thermos[/li][li]a new two-burner Coleman stove[/li][li]a new Ironman watch[/li][/ul]

And a few other odds and ends.

And one of those new Black and Decker self-extending tape-measures. You should have seen his eyes light up when we saw the commercial for that.

I’ll give a big-time “hear hear” for the Tivo recommendation. It’s also possible that you can get it for free if you have or are interested in getting a satellite dish.

If you don’t already have a system, Dishnetwork and DirecTV will both give them to you. If you do already have one and it’s been a while since you upgraded or renewed your contract (typically 1 - 2 years), they’ll probably give you one just to keep you from switching. I called Dish and told them that I was going to switch and they gave me everything I wanted. All that I had to do was agree to keep the level of service that I already had for 2 more years (no biggie) and signup for credit card autopay. I do have to pay an extra $5/month for the DVR (Dishnetwork’s version of Tivo) features but it is sooooooooo worth it. It is hands-down my favorite non-sexual toy.

Your SO will love it and so will you. I promise.

Mr. Carmichael picks out his own presents.

I know he’s going to get “Shaun of the Dead,” not sure what else.

A suit!! A nice, adult, I-gotta-interview suit!! We got a $400 suit at 50% off, then 20% off that, then 10% off the final total. A name brand suit, alterations and all, for less than $150 bucks.

And paperbacks and beef jerky.

If my dad counts, I’m getting him this.
He’s a big Patriots fan, and likes the old logo (or mascot or whatever you call the picture on the jersey) better than the new one. I do, too. The newer one looks like Elvis (not that that’s bad), but the old one looks much tougher and more menacing, which seems more appropriate for a football team.

Officially they are referred to as team logos. That particular one should always and only be referred to as the Minute Man. Excellent choice for a present, btw.
