459 correct keypresses per minute; missed the final words score. The Java applet hovered at around 115 words per minute while I was typing, which is about right. (I’m out of practice; at the end of my typing class in high school, I once topped out at 140.)
Well, for all those who’d be interested in my score because they think I type at 10,000 WPM (zev_steinhardt comes to mine), I can’t access the game. I could, but for some reason the sequence of TAB stops won’t let me access the place to put your name and preferred language. Sorry to disappoint you all.
However, if someone can come up with a work-around for this (remember, my mouse still ain’t working), please notify me. Don’t email me, as I can’t check my email due to my cursor being pernamently frozen on a link. (doing the TAB thing will not work) Just tell me in this thread.
Best score: 272 KPM, 46 WPM. Damn, and I thought I typed reasonably well, too. At least I can keep up. Hmmm, how about whenever you post your scores, post your typing method as well?
I don’t touch-type. Never learned. However, I use both hands to type, so I don’t peck. I think I just remember where the keys are. Perhaps those with the really good scores DO touch-type?
My typing method is, well, home-grown. I primarily use the index and middle fingers of each hand, with occasionally the ring finger if it’s too far of a stretch otherwise (e.g., t with the left index, a with the left ring), and rarely the pinky fingers. The left thumb does nothing, the right thumb hits space.
I just “feel” when a word is typed incorrectly - my fingers are familiar with how they should move to type a word, and if I make a typo, then they didn’t follow the right pattern. Occasionally as a trick I’ll close my eyes and type, and correct the typos as I go based solely on how the keyboard feels.
Wow, that was a humiliating experience. I always knew I couldn’t type, but to have my pathetic skills measured and documented was almost more than I could take. Based on my poor outing I should probably just keep the score to myself, but I’m a glutton for punishment. OK, here it is: 137 CPM & 22 WPM.
Style, you ask? Well, I don’t think my “style” will appear in any manuals. I mainly use index and middle fingers on each hand. Sometimes I know where the keys are, other times I need to keep an eye on what I’m doing. Of course, my KB is resting on my lap, and fairly unstable, so I do what I can with what I have.
I always thought I typed fairly fast, but apparently not!
My method is to read two or three words, and then as I’m typing, I’ll look down and make sure my fingers hit the right keys- typing the three words at a time. I also correct mistakes as I make them…Should I not do that?
I’ll try again, without making corrections…
ARRRGH! Tried it again without correcting myself and got only 247/ 41.
357/ 59 with my own special brand of typing. That sounds about right…when I took a keyboarding class two years ago, I usually averaged about 60 WPM with the proper form and plenty of practice.
But I will continue to play this stupid thing until I can get my speed going well with fewer mistakes!
