Yep. But it appeared he was waiting for the horse to take a dump before approaching the throne, so that’s somewhat respectful I suppose.
Good payoff with Dany & the Dragons, Brienne kicking ass and Ygritte having a Wildings version of schoolgirl crush on Jon.
Not enough Tyrion and really wish there had been a scene between Tyrion and his father instead of the scene between Varys and Roz.
During the iron throne part of the house of the undying was that snow or ashes coming down?
Definitely. They would have needed another episode, or should have left some stuff for the next season (maybe for instance all the Tyrion/Geoffrey scenes at King’s landing).
IMHO :
-Poorest actor : Daenerys Thargaryen. I’m bored almost as soon as I see her on screen. She does look pretty.
-Worst character development : Littlefinger. The actor is fine but they really didn’t give him a chance to shine nearly as much as the others. He’s supposed to be a master schemer, but he doesn’t have any good lines, he rarely appears, and when he does, it’s never to do anything interesting or important.
-Best actor/character : as much as I like Tyrion, it has to be Geoffrey. He’s perfectly detestable.
With a special mention for the slow and painful destruction of Theon Greyjoy’s character by the writers. Who hasn’t trampled upon him yet? At this point, you just want to hand him some maester’s poison to put him out of his misery. Although I think he appears too childish. I’m not sure whether it’s on purpose or not.
ETA upon reading another post : Ah, yes Brienne is a great cast too.
I thought it was snow. But didn’t notice/realize it was the iron throne. I was wondering what the hell she was about to touch before moving on.
I agree that there were parts that seemed crammed in, especially Danaerys’s story. Daxos and Pyat Pree got a big buildup and it seemed like they were dispatched rather handily. (Of course, after Daxos’s several references to his vault, it had to be the gun in the third act.)
We didn’t see Davos, did we?
I see a Jeon Mormont listed in the credits. I’m assuming that’s Jorah’s son, but I can’t remember his place in the story.
I’m assuming that the seige force burned Winterfell after the iron islanders left. Weren’t they led by the son of the guy who wanted to torture everyone? As for why, I have no idea. Maybe they want to usurp Robb. Or they’re going to blame the Greyjoy’s and get Robb to go to war with them.
And guys, can we avoid the “Tyrion should’ve looked like this” and “there was another character who wasn’t introduced” talk? We’re dipping into spoiler territory.
Jeor Mormont is the commander of the Nightswatch, father of Jorah. He gave his families valyrian steel sword to Jon because Jorah dishonored the family name.
Was Joffrey wearing the same crown that Renly did? It looked very similar, although as someone pointed out, the one that Renly wore looked good on him. Joffrey just looked like he was playing king.
For all of Joffrey’s shortcomings as a king, he did seem to be good at playing out that little charade regarding his repudiation of Sansa and contracting his new betrothal with Anne Boleyn. I assume that Cersei was responsible for coaching him on that.
They were both “Baratheon themed” crowns since they are both supposed to be Baratheons, I noticed the similarity too but they were not exact copies.
How many times has Harrenhal been handed over by now, anyway ? First they gave it to whatshisface, the last head of the Gold Cloaks, for having turned on Ned ; then the Mountain got it when Tywin was made hand ; now they’re flogging it to Littlefinger… It’s like the Lannisters’ official consolation prize slash medal for participation.
- “Oh yes, you betrayed someone on my behalf, well, you’re now lord of Harrenhal, enjoy while it lasts. Next order of business ?”
- “Mylord, this peasant fished out a prize-winning pig that had fallen into a well.”
- “Capital ! I shall make him lord of Harrenhal ! Next ?”
- “That was the last item before dinner, lord Tywin. The cook made an excellent lamprey pie.”
- “Mmmm, yummy. Send the cook my regards, and the title to Harrenhal.”
I had a few questions:
-
Why did Daenerys find it necessary to lock the new king of Qarth in his vault? Simply because he was (apparently) in cahoots with the warlocks?
-
What was with all of the visions in the House of the Undying? (I thought that maybe the warlocks were offering Daenerys a holodeck-type scene with Drogo and her child to keep her happy in the HotU, but that after she walked away, they switched to just chaining her up. I’m not sure what the point of the abandoned throne room was–maybe to point out that her goal of gaining the Iron Throne would lead to ashes and ruin?)
-
The warlocks kept being referred to in the plural, but was there really only one of them?
He murdered her handmaiden, kidnapped her dragons, tried to trick her into marrying him, lied about his wealth, subverted the loyalty of her other handmaiden, and participated in a conspiracy with the warlocks, who were planning to chain her up for eternity.
Queens don’t suffer this kind of treatment without dealing harsh penalties.
Because he was in cahoots with the warlocks who took Dany’s dragons away and tried to imprison her so they could steal her magic juju.
Someone did that to me, I’d be totally cool with locking them away to slowly starve to death in an empty vault. I’d consider that letting them off lightly.
Hmmm, I guess I pinned the first two things solely on the warlocks, and I thought that the marriage proposal was legitimate.
It therefore seemed to me that he was being condemned to die solely because he was somehow connected to the warlocks, and secondarily because his vault was empty.
Also, he did save her life (and her followers) by bringing her into the city in the first place, so that would seem to be a mitigating factor in his punishment. I thought Dany’s behavior reflected poorly on her; she should not have condemned him to such a gruesome death.
He was most definitely in cahoots with the warlocks, that’s how he became King of Qarth. Which made his “I’m king of Qarth, I can help you!” plea all the more galling in my eyes.
Legitimate only in the sense that he wanted to marry a queen. His arguments in favor it turned out to be based on falsehoods.
I think she would have locked him in even if there had been treasure to take.
Danaerys is not the pumpkin princess at the county harvest fair. She’s not interested in tut-tutting matrons. She’s planning on entering a war and killing thousands and then ruling over them with dragons. She has to make sure that people fear her wrath.
I took the visions to at first mean what you said: The warlocks were giving her a fantasy dream world to live in while she “in reality” stayed in the dragon-prison room to keep the dragons happy and letting the warlocks feed off their power. Showing her the throne was to tempt her with the allure of power to keep her from waking up, showing her Drogo and son was to keep her there with the allure of family, etc. I think the snowy throne room was foreshadowing, though. But she realized it was all a sham and really just wanted to find her children the dragons.
I thought showing her a wrecked empty snowy throne room was more to dissuade her from that goal than to tempt her.
