That was kind of a dick move to Sam also, the guy didn’t have “one job” he was out collecting shit to burn with the other two guys. Running back for the stupid birds would have been retarded.
No, I’d say running back for the birds would have been doing his job.
The whole point of the excursion is to report back on what’s going on north of the wall. If they all die, which at this point is looking like a real possibility, then sending back a raven with word of the battle and the movements of the White Walkers is the only way to do that.
I was even more confused. I thought that scene was at Winterfell.
That was a different day. They left out a chunk of time, but it seems like the timeline was.
-Sam and other guys go out to collect crap
-White Walkers come marching through
-SEASON END
-Sam and the other guys run back
-The Nights Watch regroup and are under attack from the zombies
-Sam gets sent to go send a Raven from somewhere
-SEASON BEGINS
- Sam runs back to the Watch again
I think they set it up to make you think at first that Sam was running right from the end of the last episode, but once he runs into the others you realize “this has been going on for a while.”
So why didn’t Sam send the raven?
Yeah, that explanation didn’t make much sense. Sam didn’t send the ravens because he wasn’t there, he was out collecting shit and then fell behind.
Why is Tywin so outraged by Tyrion consorting with whores? :dubious: I can understand him wanting him to be more discreet or disgusted by excess, but he’s coming across as being outraged simply by prostitution. Which seems like an odd view for his character to hold.
Anybody else getting the impression that Joffrey doesn’t really like girls? He hasn’t really shown any interest in sex beyond political unions. In the scene with the whores he seemed more like he was just acting out then getting off on it.
They didn’t call him the Beggar King for nothing.
Except Margaery is in on it. She’s not some innocent girl with a head full of songs and tales of courtly love.
I seriously doubt Littlefinger explained to her just how big a dick Joffrey was when they made their deal. Sansa was in on it too before she got to know Joffrey.
Tyrion already fills him with disgust. The notion that others might be laughing at the dwarf in House Lannister capering and consorting with a prostitute sends him over the edge.
That’s my read, anyway.
Tyrion’s family hates him because they feel his very existence cost them their mother. The fact that he is a dwarf is just an extra slap in the face as far as they are concerned.
He dealt with this by shirking responsibility and laughing and whoring his way through life and living down to the expectations his family had for him.
Finally he has had chances at real responsibility and realized how capable he is and how much he liked it but his family still sees him as he was and not how he is now. It is a really fascinating dynamic and one of my favorite aspects of the show.
Others have covered his general disgust with Tyrion, but he specifically said “brought a prostitute into my bed” - I think part of the problem is that he was treating a prostitute as a long term relationship, keeping her with him in the room of the hand of the king. He made a big deal about not “taking that whore to court” before he left for King’s Landing with Shea. If Tyrion had just visited the brothels, I don’t think he’d care as much.
He also represented a lot more acting in Tywin’s stead as hand of the king, he wasn’t just goofing off and whoring on some frivolous trip across the country.
He probably sees the whore thing as such an obvious weakness that can be used against him, like Cersei tried to do.
Tywin had Tyrions first whore love killed. To Tywin a son or daughter is useful to marry off to another family to build alliances. He can’t marry Jaime off, and if Tyrion is marrying whores he can’t be married to another house. He doesn’t mind prostitution he doesn’t like Tyrion falling in love with the whores. It is beneath him.
I think Dany is hoping to win a few battles and have the Dothraki hear about it. Since they worship strength, if she wins battles they will come to her to fight.
He didn’t have her killed. He hired her in the first place to pop Tyrion’s cherry. When he found out that Tyrion had married her, Tywin paid her to have sex with all his soldiers while Tyrion watched. There was nothing about her being killed afterwards.
I think there’s more to it than that. Tywin finds everything about Tyrion offensive–starting with that Tyrion’s mother died while giving birth to him and that he is a dwarf. And I believe that it has been hinted that in Tywin’s own mind, Tyrion can’t really be his trueborn son; he is nevertheless forced to accept him as a son because he can’t prove that someone else is the father.
I thought Jamie hired her.
It’s not just hinted, Tywin outright stated that in the episode.
Yeah Jamie, Tywin wouldn’t have hired a whore or really given much of a shit about Tyrions virginity.
Sorry if I missed it, but how about that nipple slicing  YOWCH!!
Just got picked up for the fourth season.
I wonder, just what expectations did his family have to him, beyond not surviving to adulthood?
Yeah, Tyrion being a dwarf means Lady Lannister died in vain. If only Tyrion had been normal then Tywin’s attitude towards him would be very, very different even if nothing about his behavior was different.
