Game of Thrones 3.05 "Kissed by Fire" 4/28/13 No spoilers

Am I the only one who thinks of Jorah as “Duncan Idaho”?

Stannis is a Baratheon. Us TV-only viewers have absolutely no idea what family the mother comes from, it could very well be Targaryen as far as we know.

Nope - that’s exactly the same role I equate him to as well.

I’ll disagree with that. I thought this episode was incredibly boring, up until the last 10 minutes. I enjoy driving the plot and setting things up, but this had a bit too much of that. Granted, every single scene involving Stannis up to this point has been setting something up, and I’ve gotten sick of it - so that may be my bias.

You didn’t like the flaming-sword duel?

Stannis’s daughter asked about one of the knights and I think her father said he was in prison. Which character was that?

She was asking about Davos Seaworth, who was locked up after he went after Melisandre.

Two scenes later, the daughter is down in the dungeon sneaking him a book. You didn’t recognize him?

Kind of a sweet/sad scene too. I mean, you get a lot of blood and guts and betrayal in this series but sometimes it’s harder to see a sweet little girl locked up in her room for her whole life because her family are crazy dicks.

The onion knight, because his symbol is an onion.

the “onion knight” - the one she later visited - the one who carries his fingers around his neck that Stannis had chopped off earlier when the “onion knight” was a pirate

eta: triple ninja’d.

Her father said it best: she’s not as bright as she thinks she is.

I loooved Brienne’s reaction shots during Jaime’s story. And the story itself. This scene had everything a Nikolaj fan could want. I agree I kind of wanted him to wash first, talk second, but I think this moment is supposed to be symbolic of him kind of bottoming out and losing his former identity - he’s been laid low, and it’s caused him to stop with the smarm and witty cutting comments, and actually have a human-to-human conversation where he is vulnerable.

As for Stannis’s daughter, I think all we know is that she’s his only surviving offspring, her mother’s batshit crazy, she has something wrong with her face - don’t know what or how - and she’s kept in an out-of-the-way tower room, Mrs. Rochester-style. Though she must have some freedom if she went to see Davos and knows which guard is a drunk. Oh, and she seems like a pretty awesome person.

Maybe she doesn’t, but it would still require a contract with a nudity clause which cost the show a lot more money (especially if she’s an established actress that has done it before) and possibly more money than they wanted to spend for the actress if they were only going to show her nude once. They were very careful to hide her breasts w/ the water and her hands, and her face was blocked in every shot from behind. Doubles like that are used all of the time. It’s cheaper to hire someone for some one-off double work than to pay the actress however much more she’s demanding for nudity in her contract. Hell, they even used a butt double for Rachel McAdams in a movie once and she wasn’t even naked.

I don’t think Tyrion was quite in the grinning mood.

Her face perfectly captured the “everything I’ve believed my whole life is wrong” feeling.

Jaime refused milk of the poppy when it was offered before treatment of his injury. Is he just so bummed out that he doesn’t care? Did they give an explanation that I missed?

I think he simply didn’t trust the doctor guy not to chop his whole arm off once he got drugged up. Also isn’t milk of the poppy opium, which is highly addictive?

Some tough guys refuse drugs - just give me a bullet to bite on…or in his case, scream louder.

Yeah, remember Qyburn said he ought to take the whole arm off, and Jaime felt distrustful enough that he didn’t just tell the guy, “No, let’s be more conservative,” he threatened to kill him if he tried to amputate. I’m pretty sure he just didn’t trust the guy enough to be less than fully conscious while being treated.

I might be misremembering this but didn’t Selmy sit in the small council in season 1, contrary to what he told Jorah this episode?

I think Jamie’s also in the “I hurt myself today to see if I could feel” stage. He’s a maimed warrior and the pain probably makes him feel alive. (It’s not like he could do a whole lot to stop Qyburn from taking the whole arm if he was really insistent, not if Qyburn called one man to help.)

No, at least not in Ned’s first meeting of the small council in episode 3. It was Ned, Littlefinger, Renly, Pycelle, Varys. He might’ve shown up in a subsequent meeting but I’m pretty sure he didn’t.
