Game of Thrones 3.05 "Kissed by Fire" 4/28/13 No spoilers

And really from a royalist POV this is what Tywin should be striving for. Of course Tywin seems to be far more dynast than anything else. But if he is willing to overlook Joffrey’s legal name and privately accept him as the inbred Lannister that he is, then an absorption of the Lannister and Baratheon lands into the royal demesne would vastly strengthen the crown. The early Targaryens had dragons and didn’t need lands and men to dominate. The new Lannisteon ( Baraster? )dynasty however has no such advantages and needs to be able to overawe any couple of rebel realms simultaneously while playing off the rest.

Also just by the by, but I don’t suppose there is any argument that Tywin Lannister would unequivocally be the most effective king ( not most humane, just pragmatically the best )? Pity he doesn’t have the bloodline for it. Stannis would probably be a passable second choice.

Could also apply to Lord Beric who is literally brought back to life by the god of fire, or anyone in the Stannis storyline.

Well, in season 2 we saw Mellisandre burning the statues of the 7 gods (warrior/maiden/crone, etc., the “main” religion of Westeros), and people like Ser Davos seemed unaccustomed to her presence, so I think it was implied that she was a fairly new presence at that point.

As for Stannis’s daughter, all the dialog between Stannis and Mellisandre is about how Stannis is worn out and doesn’t have the energy to make a shadow baby, but there are other ways to get the blood of a king… all of which implies that they might in the future sacrifice his daughter or some other blood relation, but none of which seems at all to imply that they had already tried such a sacrifice.

Which might in the long run not turn out to anyone’s benefit.

Facebook page is up!

Once people start marrying their own uncles, all debts are off.

“Demon queef of darkness”!

Winter is not the only thing coming.

Tywin referred to him as the “heir of Highgarden” so on the TV show he is the heir. Which is odd considering his family was OK with him joining Renly (& later Joffrey’s) Kingsguard.

He’s not on Joffrey’s Kingsguard.

Also, for all we know he may have younger brothers.

Lots of winners, that.

Every illiterate-adult-learns-to-read-arc ever.

There are a couple of book spoilers on that page, incidentally.

YOLSOST

I swear, every time I read one of these I dissolve into snort-giggles over what I thought was the funniest line ever, until I read the next line and dissolve into even more snort-giggles.

Ser Jorah Mormont: And I’m just saying maybe your mom should attend my invasion party.

I laughed at the old-ass Lord of the Rings image macro.

Love the Snopes reference.

Hodor.

I suspect it might be the same board I recently visited. I was amazed by the number of details those totally unsullied viewers had caught. And by their dedication to stay unspoiled. Watching the boring book frame by frame in search of tidbits of infos when the whole genealogy of Baratheon’s house is easily available on many sites is truly incredible!
If it’s the same board, the mere fact of posting there is a banable offense if you’ve read the book (proved I assume by having posted a reference to the books in another thread).

I guess so. I’m absurdly protective of my relatives, regardless how remote in Crusader King. Who knows when the unfortunate death  of an heir will land you some title, or when said remote relative will save your lineage when it’s your lord who dies while hunting boars…(IIRC, it’s actually possible to die in a hunting accident in CK).
Well having your daughter married to the king, and as a result your grandchildren being heirs to the throne means that the two families have very strong common interests.

And having your heir marrying the possible heir of another kingdom (only Robb stays in the way, apparently, since the two others Stark sons are believed to be dead) is even more straightforward.

By the way, regarding Bran and Rickon. Tiwyn takes as granted that they’re dead. But on the other hand, last time they were mentioned by Catelyn, their fate was considered unknown. Did I miss something?

Catelyn seemed to think they were dead, since someone tried to cheer her up by saying there’s a chance they’re still alive. She’s not convinced of it but she’s leaning towards thinking they’re dead.
