I actually thought that Tyrion was pretending to be more drunk than he was, just to avoid the “bedding ceremony.” I figured he’d walk into the newlywed suite, lock the door and display that he was sober.
Nice opening with the Hound and Arya. Things may be looking up for her.
No updates on Jon, Theon, or Jamie and Brienne.
Mmmm… naked Dany. She gave whatsisname an eye full.
Naked Melisandre is both hot and scary. And, apparently, a tease. Poor Gendry.
Very awkward wedding. Joffrey is such a dick. I thought for a while that Tyrion was going to go ahead and do his “duty” and bed Sansa.
Cersei goes full bitch with Margaery, and can’t even be civil with poor Loras.
Exciting ending. Go Sam!
So that was the “dragon glass” blade that Sam used on the White Walker, right? I couldn’t tell for sure, but I assumed it was. It was dumb to leave it behind. I wonder how rare that stuff is.
Why?
Well other than now being dead along with lots of other people.
I think after last weeks 30 seconds per story arc, this weeks episode was better for focusing on a few rather than all.
Sam leaving his white walker killing knife behind certainly seams like an error.
When Stannis was dropping the leaches in the fire what word did he say before the names, or was it some made up magical word. Also I missed the second name, it was Robb, someone and King Mcmurderboner Douchebag.

Balon Greyjoy (father of the mercifully absent from tonight’s episode Theon), who has proclaimed himself a king as well.
Balon Greyjoy was the other name. He named the 3 remaining “kings” besides himself who are vying for the Iron Throne. The war was called last season the “war of the 5 kings”. Renly is dead so only 4 remain. We have not seen much of Balon though so it is easy to forget about him.
The second name Stannis said was Balon Greyjoy, Theon’s father.
Ahhh thanks, forgot about him.
BTW is the stuff on the HBO viewers guide website OK for this thread?
Stannnis dedicated one of the leeches to Balon of the Iron Islands, father of the unfortunate Theon. He took advantage of the unrest after Robert’s death to break free from the Kingdom (as he’d done before–remember that the Starks held Theon as a hostage). And his people raided the North…
I think Sam had more obsidian from the cache they discovered…
Heh, I was expecting that as well. I guess he *really *wasn’t in any state to bed his wife, even if he’d wanted to.
I wonder what’s going through Shae’s mind right now. She’s obviously pissed at Tyrion, who’s surprisingly bad at talking to women he cares for, for such a generally sharp-tongued fellow… but at the same time, I really don’t know how to interpret the look she gave Tyrion upon finding out there had been no consummation.
In other news : hand up, any man who didn’t wince upon witnessing a leech being ripped right from Gendry’s forging hammer ? Didn’t think so. Yeeeaouch. Even if they did come off surprisingly easy - aren’t leeches supposed to suck on like crazy and basically rip the muscle should one try and pull them away without killing/burning them first ?
Usurper.
I was pissed at Sam dropping the knife, but I guess it’s consistent with his character, he’s made outta stupid. It apparently did not occur to him that more than one White Walker might try to get the baby. Hopefully he will be severely killed in an upcoming episode for lack of that knife.
Last we saw, Theon was being castrated, so no, Gendry’s tribulations were minor in the big scheme, and I felt he whined too much.
Yup. I thought first “only one? not even some zombies?” and second, “dude, he’s dissolving, take the leftovers!” I think Sam is too much of what TVTropes calls “the Woobie” to die, though.
I too, did not hear “usurper” or whatever. I got the gist, though.
So… does anyone else think that the three usurpers named by Stannis are actually going to check out in the next couple of episodes?
No one will miss Balon Greyjoy, everyone will cheer if Joffery gets it, and I have to concur with the general opinion in last week’s thread that Robb Stark may not be long for this world. It certainly seems possible to me that they’ll all be dead by this season’s end.
But maybe not… maybe that’s what they want us to think.
Well, I did, and I’m 100% certain of it.
But, just for you, I’ll go and check my downloaded copy of the episode…
…yep, Stannis says “the usurper” before each name.
I’m wondering about the exchange between Dany and her servant regarding Dany’s mastery of the Dothrakian language not being as masterful as she thought. That scene is setting up something. A symbolic chink in Dany’s armor? Showing us that she’s so sure of herself that she’s blind to her weaknesses? She’s had a streak of good fortune so far this season, including Darrio deciding to take out his captains and follow her. I’m thinking maybe she suffers a major setback soon.
I think the Dothraki exchange was a cute callback to season 1. Another tent, another handmaiden tending to her, and still correcting her pronunciation of the same exact word. I laughed. I guess it does serve as a note that she has risen far (" . . . and last year I had no dragons") but perhaps isn’t as completely dominant as she likes to think.
Hey, the Winchesters are famous for dropping weapons. And they’re both still alive.
More or less…
Cersei, subtle as always… She really isn’t as clever as she thinks she is. She should have stopped with the story she was telling Margaery about the other family, and let the implication sink in.
