Game of Thrones 4.01 "Two Swords" 4/6/14 [NO SPOILERS - See sticky]

If I were the DM, I’d likely rule that the bird is released when the warg died. Unless the warg was a PC or major NPC I wanted to use later. The PC would probably get some kind of roll, possibly system shock, to survive in animal form. The NPC would just be magic-mumbled back into existence the next time I needed him.

But GoT is not AD&D, and I’m not the DM, soooo…who knows?

I think it’s clear that there’s some kind of dragon-related magic that runs in the Targaryen family, but that not every member of the family has. At some point some character (I forget which, maybe Ser Jorah) tells Dany “Your brother, Raygar (sp?) was the last dragon”, the implication being that Vaserys isn’t (despite his claims to the contrary). Dany later echos this: “He was no dragon. Fire cannot kill a dragon.” Later when she proves immune to fire, that shows us that she is “a dragon”.

But I’m not convinced that when the Targaryen’s say that one of them is “a dragon” that that necessarily means they’re the literal descendents of dragons. It may just mean they have the family dragon magic (wherever that comes from).

But whatever it is, it’s clear it’s something that runs in the Targaryen family.

Locke. A henchman of Roose Bolton. We haven’t seen him since Jaime rescued Brienne from his bear pit.

That one is pretty old, but I’m pretty sure “sword swallower” is original to GoT.

Nope. Heard that one when I was in college in the mid-80s.

No, it’s not. I’ve encountered it in 40-year-old British comedies. I bet it’s much older than that.

Locke, played by Noah Taylor. I think the last scene he appeared in was when Jaime saved Brienne from the bear.

Heh.

Also a good point.

I fully comprehend that the Starks are supposed to represent being honourable and being better people, but I still think their over-arching characteristic is not using their heads very much.

Sansa was (and is) the eldest daughter of a Lord - her surprise and dismay at a political marriage (which was what being married to Joffre was supposed to be, if I recall correctly) indicates that she has no idea how her world works - either she’s dumb, or her mother did not teach her anything. Her mother was not dumb.

I would also disagree with the idea that the Stark’s are out of their element - Ned Stark was playing the Game of Thrones as a youth when he and Robert Baratheon led a rebellion. He had no reason to act as foolishly as he did in King’s Landing, in my opinion.

OOOOooooh - interesting twist possible!

It’s all “boy fiction” - I’m used to that.

I also wanted to comment on Shae - she needs to get the hell over herself. She and Sansa and Tyrion need to have a sitdown altogether and sort this out - everyone can get what they want and no one needs to have dramaaaaaaa! (But this is a tv show, I realize that.)

“better”?

I don’t think the show tries to make any judgment of that sort.

She certainly expected an arranged dynastic marriage. But she started out thinking that a handsome prince would by definition also be loving and wonderful. Bear in mind that even though she grew up as the daughter of a powerful noble family, they were a powerful noble family that lived way out in the middle of nowhere. And her model for an arranged marriage was her parents’, two people who clearly ended up loving each other very much.

Clearly she started out completely unprepared for the realities of life in King’s Landing. The question is how she has adapted to that reality, and if nothing else, she’s still alive…

Thanks for the answers to my questions about Locke and the “pillow biter” phrase.

That’s open to interpretation, but my view was that she fell head over heels for him because he was pretty, and a glorious knight in shining armour. IOW a repeat of her first season prince charming. And dropped everything else she had in mind for that dream.

As for not being aware that he’s a “pillow bitter” : precisely. Everybody and his dog knows he is. Except Sansa. Knowing this kind of basic information would be pretty useful to survive. All other characters make a point of being well informed because they know they need to. But Sansa is just oblivious of everything. Same goes for Littlefinger by the way. Before she decided on a marriage with Loras, she was ready to follow him anywhere. Nobody in his right mind in King’s Landing would trust Littlefinger. And she’s also totally unable to notice that Tyrion is very willing to help her. She also rebuffed the hound presumably because he’s big and scarry. And coming back to Ser Loras, she absolutely didn’t notice his lack of interest in her (even not knowing he was gay, that at least was plenty obvious).

To sum up, she’s still ready to fall for anyone at any time, she’s completely naive, totally uninformed and is an abysmal judge of charachter. Until she has been severely bitten, she seems to trust anybody who’s up to no good, and distrust anybody who’s actually willing to help. At this point, I’m pretty sure she would have seen lord Frey as a grandfatherly figure, and would have been enthralled to hang out with the Bolton bastard.

Game of Thrones on Facebook recap for Season 4 Ep 1 is finally posted.

Yeah, that. During the “I’m a badass ; which I will indicate by communicating only by grunts, silences and constipated stares” part of his intro, he replies to “How did you find us ?” by nodding towards one of their guys who’s playing with a raptor bird.
Since the last guy we knew who tooled around with one of those was a Warg scout, it’s heavily implied this guy is too, and furthermore (since he follows up with “you didn’t see us coming, is yours dead ?”) that most every Wildling party brings at least one. Like a radioman or Predator drone operator or something :).

That does explain why they’re infamously good at ambushing rangers venturing North of the Wall I suppose.

I’m not sure *every *party has one; bear in mind that the wildlings who scale the wall are probably elite units, so to speak.

My evil employer blocks that for… adul content??? :dubious:
Thanks for ther answers about the Thenn warg. I hadn’t noticed this.

(as someone who hasn’t read the books) The dragon’s name is Drogon?

Yes, Drogon (black) Rhaegal (green) and Viserion (yellow). Pretty sure that was on the show.

There’s a screen shot of the flexible girl from Oberyn’s intro scene. So, yeah… It’s not explicit, but it’s NSFW

Nice. Every girl should have a murder pony.

Cool, I’ve been waiting for that.
