Game of Thrones 4.07 "Mockingbird" 5/18/14 [no spoilers]

Any season without at least three Stark deaths is considered a dull affair.

We have three episodes left, and three Starks left (unless you count Jon Snow). They’d better get a move on.

Personally, I think Sansa is overdue for it. One would be enough.

There are four starks left, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon. Five if you count Jon Snow. The only Stark child killed so far is Robb.

It’s so easy to forget about Rickon. OK then, they have three episodes and four Starks left. They’re still running out.

Hey, who knows, maybe Rickon will end up being the key to the entire thing by the end of the story?

Hmm, I am wondering how many are left in each house (by name):

Lannister (5) - Tywin, Tyrion, Jaimie, Kevan, Lancel, (Cersei)

Tyrell (4?) - Loras, Olenna, Margery’s father and I believe their Mother although I don’t think we have seen her, (Margery)

Baratheon (7+1)- Cersei, Margery, Tommen, Myrcella, Stannis, Selyse, Shireen (gendry (b))

Petyr said “Lyssa, can you fly?”
But Lyssa couldn’t fly, Lyssa died!

We need to do a GoT version of Jim Carroll’s People Who Died.

Benjen is still MIA right? We don’t know if he’s alive or dead.

Benjen?

Ned’s brother, a member of the Night’s Watch, who convinced Jon Snow to join the Night’s Watch early in the 1st season. Then he disappeared while ranging beyond the Wall.

I was just thinking about him. I had assumed he was dead. He’s “presumed dead” as far as the Watch are concerned, right? But normally in fiction, “presumed dead” always means “actually alive”. Or at the very least, he’s dead but with a story attached.

Yes, he’s presumed dead by the Watch.

He’ll either show up alive when Jon needs him the most… or he’ll show up undead at the worst moment for Jon.

They should have had an added scene after the credits-

Sansa: Leave the moon door open, I’ll be right back.
Baelish: Where are you going!?
Sansa: To get Robin.

Little finger needs Tyrion dead, so he arranges that Jofferys death will cast the blame on Tyrion, freeing up Sansa to be able to remarry. He needs Sansa, cause he wants winterfell, so the character still has some legs left in the story.

Declan

Only saw the episode today. I found it superb. It had a dark overtones in most scenes (which I found great), and was filled with new, interesting, exciting, sometimes moving interactions between characters. An uninterrupted flow of inner and relational changes. Loved it. One of the best I’ve seen since the beginning.

Oh! And I didn’t dislike that much lord Baelish. He was, in fact, rather human, for probably the first time in the show. And I understand his love for Catelyn Stark to be his almost only motivation, directly or indirectly, for everything he did (not that it makes him a nice guy, of course).

I don’t have much issue with Robin, by the way (see littlefinger comment about his mother being responsible for what he is).
Even Sansa changed!
(only issue I had : the scene with the moutain chopping down people was way over the top, cartoonish)

I just finished watching this one, and agree that Peter Dinklage has turned in two fantastic performances recently. I’m conflicted however by this TBC…in a normal TV/movie universe, Oberyn would win because the Mountain is clearly a bad guy. In the Martin universe however the good guy should be killed…but I have no idea where that leaves Tyrion. I agree that Tywin can’t let him off the hook after his rant.

I wonder what would happen to Tyrion if they both died in the ring. I’m guessing that wouldn’t be a win, but who knows.

Martin doesn’t kill people because they are good, he kills people because they make stupid decisions and put themselves into positions where most people would die. We are just used to most writers saving good guys from those situations. This is just a straight up fight between two people, one of whom looks incredibly tough and the other we do not know too much about.

Have we ever seen it covered or locked? Or is it always an “accident” waiting to happen?
