Game of Thrones 7.04 "The Spoils of War" 8/6/2017 [Show discussion only]

Jamie could drown and be returned to life by whatever god the Iron Island crowd worships, making him a better foil for Euron.

I’m about 90% certain it was Dickon who saved him and both went into the water. Jaime is who we see sinking. I’m guessing Dickon will pull him out of the water. Then he will be sacrificed to George RR. Purely a guess based on nothing.

One twist I didn’t see coming was making Dickon be a likable character. In that short scene having him talk about his first battle humanized him and separated him from his asshole father.

The actor for Dickon also playing a huge part in Black Sails (seriously go watch that). I hope he sticks around. But then again, Ian McShane…

Really strong ep. Maise Williams knocked it out of the park.

Zero chance Jaime or Bronn are dead, or Dickon Tarly. I think it’s likely the elder Tarly snuffed it.

Next episode we’ll see Tyrion fast-talking to prevent Jaime and Bronn becoming dragon food or getting Dothrakied.

That was actually the one part I found a little hard to swallow, since they were apparently “training” with real swords and not wooden ones (could they have been ‘blunted’?) Even so, if Arya hadn’t successfully dodged all of Brienne’s earnest swings, I think she could have lost her head.

Agree on it still being a great episode overall, but not the best (I think the S6 finale was the best so far).

Brienne has a training sword.

That’s a pretty big misread of the scene. It’s not an Arya training scene, she’s not learning anything from it, it’s not part of her journey to become a badass - it’s the conclusion to that arc, to prove to everyone else how much of a badass she’s become. It demonstrates both her level of proficiency and also spreads that knowledge to everyone else, which will almost certainly be significant later.

They show the sword quite clearly, it’s obviously a sparring sword and not Oathkeeper.

Damn, that kicked ass!

I like Bronn, but I was definitely rooting for Drogon there.

Loved Davos considering ‘switching sides’ to Dany instead of Jon.

Also loved the reunions with Sansa/Arya/Bran, and also Jon and Theon. Was hoping for another Dany/Jorah reunion.

OK, so it’s a blunted metal sword? Seems like it would still be pretty frickin’ dangerous to take a blow to the (unprotected) head from that.

I’m guessing that it was Bronn who saved Jaime. The person who saved Jaime was on a white horse. Dickon was seen earlier on a brown horse. When Bronn escaped the dragon he was looking at a white horse.

Yep, much better than the Harry Potter actor who portrayed him last season. They have upgraded the role from a “pretty boy” to a “fighting man”.

Yup. And it looked like the person who saved Jaime was not wearing armor. Dickon was, Bronn wasn’t.

So far, the person that “saved” Jaime also drowned him.

And poor Jaime if he does go out like that. He could have gone down instantaneously in a literal blaze of glory while charging a dragon. Instead, he slowly drowns because he can’t get out of his armor and has a solid metal hand. He was so close to redeeming some glory for the history books!

ETA: It’s actually fitting enough that I think he may just be a goner. But I admit, there is something to the KingSlayer=KinSlayer theory.

By tackling him into the one lake that is 30 feet deep 5 feet from the shore

It looked to me that Randyll Tarley was shown pulling his helmet off his burned head.

If he survives, wouldn’t it be awesome if he had to go to the Citadel for treatment? Perhaps by Samwell Tarley…

Great episode. Loved all of it.

I slowed the scene down, and it’s definitely Bronn who saves Jaime.

I admit I was really worried Bronn was going to get burninated, but possibly still take down Drogon. As it turns out, neither bought the farm (yet). I’d be really surprised if Jaime dies here.

Aside from the battle, it seems that Daeneris and Jon Snow are at an impasse - she won’t help him until he bends the knee, and he can’t bend the knee without losing his followers in the north.

But you know what might save the day? Marriage. And Daeneris already said that she was perfectly willing to marry someone if she needed to establish legitimacy. She told that to Daario Naharis when she said he had to remain behind in Mereen.

That battle scene was epic. The Lannisters had absolutely no chance, even without the dragons. They were mostly on foot, against a mounted army. Buh-bye. I’m glad that the show made that point as well.

Jaime could die this way. George RR Martin isn’t above showing how even generals can die in battle - or major characters, for that matter. But I think he’ll live. If he was intended to die, I think he would have been killed by Dragon Fire. So I suspect he’ll be hauled out of the water by someone (probably Bronn), then captured.

But at this point, Tyrion would an idiot to try to bring either Jamie or Bronn onto his side. Neither of them can be trusted. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Tyrion let Jamie go to take a message back to Cersei and as a show of good faith to try to broker a peace. That, of course, would be immediately rejected by the mad queen.

It was stupid of Bran to announce to Littlefinger what he knows, as that just put a big target on him. On the other hand, if Bran knows the future as well as the past, he may know that he’s not in danger because he knows how Littlefinger will end.

Speaking of immediately rejected by the queen, that might just include the idea of Dany letting go of a very valuable prisoner who killed her father and just tried to kill her.
