Game of Thrones 7.04 "The Spoils of War" 8/6/2017 [Show discussion only]

I don’t think she knew exactly was in the wagons; could be food, could be weapons or gold. Either prioritizing getting the gold into King’s Landing ahead of the food is sure going to bite Cersei in the ass.

That went exactly how I was expecting it to go.

The long take following Bronn through the battle with an off center camera was really well done.

I guess that’s the implication, but Kings Landing is going to starve whether that grain is burning on a butte in Westworld or being eaten by dothraki!

No, it was definitely Jaime sinking.

I figured that Dany would try to save the provisions so that she could either get them to Casterly Rock to provision the Unsullied there, or maybe send them back to the Reach, and move the Unsullied down to Highgarden.

It’s even more confusing in that case, wouldn’t she spend her time burning up opposition forces and providing air support to her ground troops before going after the carts? Whatever is in there is worth more captured than destroyed.

Actually I think her intention was to make sure there was no more scorpions

Holy crap that was great! The first half was really really good with the Stark Sisters reuniting, Arya Fighting Brienne, Littlefinger getting nervous because he is not as in control as he thinks he is etc. but it feels like it happened three weeks go because that last half was just so awesome. A few short takes:

Arya saying “No one” trained her was the line of the episode until Drogon said, “FFFFFFFFFFFFFFSSSSSHHHH!” to Jaime Lannister.

Arya’s definitely going to save herself from a White Walker with that dagger right?

I suspect Jaimie will struggle out of his armor and lose his hand to get out of the water but whoever saved him (Sam’'s brother?) will die. Unless it was Bronn. Bronn will live too.

To the person doubting themselves about the gold they definitely did make a point of saying it had reached King’s Landing.

I have been thinking this for years now but this episode makes it plain: Dothraki are basically Klingons without the ridges.

Such a great episode. First one since Hardhome I immediately wanted to watch again. The only downer is Bran. Bran’s a drip.

She knew those were the supplies the entire continent she hopes to rule will depend on to survive the winter. She even mentions it earlier in the episode, how she can’t feed her army and the Lannisters took the grain from Highgarden. I’m assuming there will be something left over in the Reach for her to support her army for now, but not nearly enough for winter, and the commoners of Westeros will suffer.

I don’t know, this episode cemented in my mind that Dany is not the good guy. Of course, neither was Aegon the Conqueror.

I’m pretty sure both Bronn and Jaime survived, but they will be prisoners (at least Jaimie will, Bronn might switch sides, considering Cersei doesn’t have any dragons), and that’s going to be a major loss for Cersei.

Does anybody know if Randyll or Dickon Tarly survived? Any clues I missed regarding their outcomes? When Dickon saved Jaime is the last I remember seeing him.

Seconded. Jaime is sinking. Followed by a long silence over the beginning of the credits and somber music after that.

Bronn laughing at Dickon was great. I was much more concerned about Bronn dying than Drogon or Dany.

New thought; Cersei is trapped in a besieged King’s Landing and instead of using her dragons to burn the city she uses them to drop leaflets telling everyone all the have to do is bend the knee in order to eat. Enough people are literate to get the message, and eventually even Cersei’s guards are going to get hungry.

Another thought-- Tyrion watched the whole dragon vs Bron vs Jaime thing. I’m thinking he’s gonna send somebody to fish Jaime out.

There’s no Gutenberg on this planet, so she would need a large number of scribes. Leaflets are impractical in Westeros.

Nobody taught her that.

I remember the line, but don’t get the reference. Can someone explain?

Was Bran’s quoting the “chaos is a ladder” line meant to show that he pretty much knows everything that’s happened in Westeros over the past few decades? Or did he perform a psychic history of Littlefinger while he was in front of him?

Another big question is whether Drogon survives. Where are the other 2 dragons? I assume that at some point will Jon be trained to fly them to burn out the wights or White Walkers. I asked a question in the prior thread that I don’t know if we know yet, but what happens to the wights if the White Walkers are all dead? If the dragons can just target the white walkers, thereby disabling the wights, maybe winning the big war wouldn’t be as impossible as it looks. But I’m sure the dragon glass will have to come into play.

That was a hell of a battle scene. It reminded me why I’ve enjoyed watching GoT so much.

And thank God we got another Arya training scene! Lord knows the series hasn’t had enough of them.

The Iron Bank lends gold to make a profit on interest payments. If House Lannister repays their debt early, the Iron Bank will stop charging interest, and stop earning a profit. Kind of like paying off a mortgage or credit card. Since House Lannister has a reputation as a good credit risk (a Lannister always pays his debts), the Iron Bank immediately offered Cersei a line of credit for her next venture.

Brilliant episode! It’s obvious Tyrion still cares for Jaime’s safety in this battle. I’m hoping we get to see a reunion. In fact, if added to Dany’s side, Jaime is precisely the military mind needed to overthrow his sister.

I realize that it made for a great battle scene but why commit the Dothraki at all? A surprise strafing run by the dragon would have accomplished the same thing with no casualties.

Jamie is gonna live. A Lannister always pays his debts and he owes Bronx big time now. He’s gonna have to spring Tyene from the dungeon with antidote in hand and let Bronn run off with her.
