Everyone now bands together to fight the army of the dead. Cersei betrays the alliance and gets killed.
Littlefinger is going to get it soon. It’s amazing to see how far he’s fallen. From setting the Lannisterd and Starks against each other to starting a feud between sisters.
Completely normal for House Targaryen, and even in European history there a bunch of examples of avunculate marriage among royalty & nobility; though uncle-niece was more common than aunt-nephew.
Speaking of Euron’s fleet, I guess now that it’s plot functions are over it has disappeared. Dany’s has landed an army and now Jon is sailing around without a care in the world.
Dany is dead meat. They foreshadowed it with the discussion of her succession. She will die in the war against the dead. But she’s taking the Night King with her. Plus George Martin has talked of a “bittersweet” ending, which would mean we’re happy with who sits on the Iron Throne at the end, but it might not be the one the show seemed to be building to all this time.
Cersei is dead meat because she’s Cersei. The only question is whether Jamie kills her or Arya does the deed. Arya disguised as Jamie(after killing him of course) would be poetic.
Things I have no clue about but can’t wait to find out:
Who sits on the Iron Throne at the end?
Will the epilogue be real change coming to Westeros?
What’s the point of Sam Tarly’s story? Supposedly we’re supposed to find out how to kill the White Walkers, but it seems pretty obvious at this point(since they said it outright in this episode) that if Jon can get to the Night King and kill him with his sword, then it’s over.
Tormund and Brienne. Where is that going? Some speculated that Tormund was dying, but he got saved, so apparently there are plans.
Sander Clegane. Where’s he going now that he’s again on his own?
Bran: see Sam Tarly. There just doesn’t seem to be any mystery anymore with the army of the dead that needs solving.
I’m not complaining too much about the show because even though it is more predictable than it was in earlier seasons, there’s still a lot that we don’t know about how things will play out. The only obvious plot point that to me is nearly 100% likely is that Jon Snow’s Valerian Steel Sword is going to clash with the Night King’s Spear of Awesomeness.
The timing thing really pulled me out of the drama. By the time Dany and the dragons got there, the raiding party should have been either popsicles or zombies.
Nitpick: Even in a blizzard, Jon Snow and company don’t have frosty breath.
WTF was up with Arya’s Big Ol’Bag O’Faces? We’ve seen her do the hand wipe change thing before, but never any indication that she carries them in a satchel…
Now that Sansa knows Arya can change faces, although she doesn’t know exactly how it is done (and may not have recognized Walder Frey’s face) - she won’t know if LIttlefinger is really him, or Arya in disguise. Unless Arya is in the same room, she won’t know if any given person is Arya or not.
When Dany was watching on the wall with Tyrion, I assumed they were looking for the second dragon, not waiting to see if Jon appeared. Did I miss it, or is there a lost living dragon out there still?
Dany is on the boat with Jon and her dragons presumably circling overhead, They are headed to Kings landing and she wouldn’t go without her dragons. If Euron happened upon them it might not go well for him.
Thoros and Belric had good chemistry and they both had great voices for monologues. They should have had more screen time throughout the series.
B: “I know - while the maesters at the Citadel have proven the old trope that you lose 40% of your body heat through your head is false, surely we’d be better off wearing hoods, like these other guys we’re traveling with!”
A: “Yeah - they’ll probably survive a lot longer than we will!”
One of them is going to have to die. Otherwise the whole, “this is upending fantasy cliches” story is going to end with a massive fantasy cliche, and I doubt that’s where it is heading.
Btw, I believe in the previous thread I mentioned that Arya is going to turn on Sansa and was scoffed at by some (because Sansa doesn’t trust Littlefinger and Arya knows that). It appears Littlefinger is actually playing a better game than some viewers care for ;).
Actually, the timing is more or less doable. They spend some indeterminant amount of time hunkered down, enough for the lake to refreeze. According to One Of Bilco"S Bulletins - Notice Board - Pigeonbasics Forum, pigeons have been able to cover nearly a 1000 miles in a 12-18 hour period. And a Dragon flying at WW2 fighter speeds could get there.
The other complaint many viewers have had is that why Night King threw the spear at Viserion who was mobile and further away while ignoring the stationary and closer Dorgon. The reason was that Doagon was on the ground. It was easier to hit, the low and slow Viserion with a parabolic arc rather than try and hit Drogon with a flat trajectory. Despite being nearer, Drogon was out of range, while Viserion was within effective range, despite being technically further away.
Also, like in real world Air Defence, if the target knows he is about to be engaged, chances of survival increase, Viserion had no idea he was being targeted until he was hit, Drogon could see the Night King, and indeed he dodged the second shot, which he saw coming.
The two main complaints that have been made about this episode are not really accurate.
The internet reminded me that way back when Jon was with the Free Folk, Tormund claimed to have fucked a bear, which puts his “We make due” line in an even funnier light.
Well, I guess we don’t have to speculate about a third Targaryen any longer. One dragon for Danny and one for Jon.
As for upcoming deaths, I figure Jorah and Littlefinger seem like likely candidates in the near future. One or the other of the Cleganes has to go, because if Cleganebowl doesn’t happen, there will be rioting.
I’m picking Davos as the long shot in the deadpool. He seems like such a mensch that his death would really hurt.
At the 47:22 mark someone falls of a cliff, gives a very human scream and is devoured by zombies. Who was that, what did I miss? (I was multitasking but I thought I was paying enough attention.
I got really excited to see them drag out the dead dragon to turn it. I’ve been wanting a frost wyrm for a few episodes now!
Probably even longer than 1200 miles, if the estimates in this article are correct. It places Winterfell at 600 miles from Castle Black (flying in a straight line), and Dragonstone looks to be around 2.5 times the distance from Eastwatch as Winterfell is from the Wall. So let’s say 1500 miles conservatively, and we have a top-tier raven that can fly at 50 mph. That’s 30 hours without stopping. And let’s say Dany’s dragons fly around 100 mph (200 seems a bit fast for me, especially carrying a rider) so another 15 hours. Plus time for Gendry to run to the Wall. So 45-50 hours? It did seem to me like one night had passed, but definitely not two whole days.
Yeah, before they seemed to be black, green and a dark gold, but now they just all look blackish to me.
I was meaning to say that Arya’s acting even more of a creepy weirdo than Bran, with her ‘Let’s play a game…’ and bag o’faces.
Hope Jon and Dany end up getting it on while they’re on the boat, get back to Winterfell and have Bran be like* “I saw you doing your aunt on that boat, you looked beautiful.”*
Agree that the timing thing is getting ridiculous. We’re meant to believe that Gendry can run to Eastwatch (must be some distance as he collapses when he reaches it), a raven can fly to Dragonstone (like 2000km, it’s 2/3rds of the way down the freakin continent) and Dany can fly Khaleesi Airlines and find them before a lake freezes over - north of The Wall, in winter, with ice monsters watching? Why didn’t the NK javelin our plucky heroes while they waited for Dany? I get the NK might be a greenseer himself and know that Dany’s on her way so he can nab a dragon, but they wouldn’t stop him ROFLstomping Jon & co after Gendry had gone, how would Dany know that they’d all been killed? Bond villain stupidity, and again with not targeting Drogon.
Honestly the show makes more sense if you assume Westeros is the size of like, Rhode Island. Why didn’t they use Mellisandrei and have her show Dany Jon is in trouble looking at flames, or have Bran send a raven so at least Gendry gets to fight? Or have Dany come up to Eastwatch with Jon so she can see Sir Rotsalot before they send it to Cersei, then have Gendry run back?
I’m still enjoying the show, but this capture a wight and show it to Cersei thing is almost as bad as the Dorne shit in season 5. Ok, maybe not that bad, but Tyrion of alll people should know his lunatic sister is utterly untrustworthy and irredeemable. Maybe if they’d planned to show it to whichever bannermen are still loyal to Cersei, turn up at someone’s castle with Drogon and wight and be like “Here’s a wight, they exist and there’s shitloads more, join us in fighting them or I’ll melt your castle.”
Also bothers me that the show once known for ‘anyone can die’ is playing it very safe. I thought for sure only Jon and The Hound would survive from the suicide squad, instead we get Thoros and some redshirts. They’re also making Jon’s plot armour a bit too apparent, he gets a lot of last minute rescues - 2 in this episode alone - as well as being immune to hypothermia!
They had a few random wildlings with them who died during the fight. You just couldn’t see their red shirts on under all the IKEA rugs they were wearing.
I don’t think any named characters died (except Thoros).
I didn’t think that many would die, but I really thought Beric would die at least. And yeah, Jon’s survival (not to mention Benjen’s sudden appearance) were pretty ridiculous, especially after Dany had already made a miraculous save. Jon apparently took swimming lessons from the same guy as Jaime.
The best parts of this so we’re the conversations as the group was heading north. Little character moments were great. A bunch of other stuff was pretty bad. It wasn’t the worst ep of the series though, that was last week.

[li]Why did one wight survive after the walker was killed? That was convenient. [/li][li]If surrounded by a semi frozen lake, you’d think they would have thought to break the ice a bit sooner. [/li][li]Dany chose Tyrion to be her hand, but not only has he given pretty rotten counsel, she only listens to the bad stuff. [/li][li]Why the he’ll did Jon continue to fight and push away from the dragon? Repel the immediate threat and leave.[/li][li]Benjen there was pretty weak deus ex machina. [/li][li]Gendry not only has like, really strong arms from all that rowing, he is in super good shape for the running. [/li][li]Why would Dany change into her winter outfit, then seem to have another change of clothes with her? [/li][li]Why are they even taking a boat back, they just all flew on a dragon! Could be home in like 5 minutes. [/li][li]Arya seems to be full psychopath now, her creepy shit is for no reason[/li][li]Arts getting mad at that letter is pretty weak, obviously it was under duress. Maester Luwin and Robb saw through it immediately. That’s super false drama. [/li][li]Did Sansa intentionally send brienne away so Baelish wouldn’t turn her against Arya? That wasn’t very clear. Kind of a dick move by Sansa though. Super dangerous to go to kings landing, you go instead, by yourself![/li][/ul]
It seemed like the purpose of the last two stinkers was to get Dany convinced of the northern threat, have Jon and Dany build alliance, and have white walkers kill and turn a dragon. All the other BS seemed shoehorned around those things.
Ugh, I hope this isn’t indicative of the remainder of the series.
