Now you know what a long way I’ll go for a joke,
Slate just posted about the show changing its portrayal of Daenerys.
Or maybe it has always been there.
That was…oh. Yes, I suppose…maybe. I really need to examine the sort of thing I consider NSFW!
I wouldn’t say it’s always been there but it definitely didn’t start this season.

I’m sure there are some subtle nuances of language here that I’m not savvy to. But by the same token, I’m sure that there are a lot of other folks here who likewise aren’t savvy to those nuances. And while I happen to know from other posts that Biggirl is African American, that’s not apparent online. So let’s please avoid terms like “niggas”.
On the same note, not being familiar with the show, I’m not sure if “no dick” is meant literally here (as in, the character is a eunuch or similarly disfigured in the genitals), or as a disparagement of perceived inadequacy of manhood. If the latter, let’s avoid that, also.
Prediction: Jon hands Bran over to the Night King in order to same humanity.
Something different may be what is in store. Hard to tell.
One possible theory is that Sam will somehow manage to use the Horn of Winter and some think its power may be to resurrect the Starks in the crypt to fight the Night King.
NOTE: 100% fan theory stuff here. Very little direct evidence. Could be completely wrong.
What we do know:
Joramun supposedly blew the horn which, “woke giants from the earth.” Some say it will bring the wall down but it is already down so…shrug
Brandon the Builder built the crypts below Winterfell which are quite extensive. There should be a lot of Starks down there (IIRC this is 8,000 years since the time of Brandon the Builder…so lots and lots of ancestors in there). Why would he bother doing that? Doesn’t seem he’d build such a think just cuz when no one else in the world seems to go to that much trouble to bury their dead. I mean, maybe he did but he seems a more purposeful guy.
Mance Rayder spent a LOT of time looking for the Horn of Winter but never found it.
John finds it when Ghost leads him to it. Some suggest Bloodraven (aka Three Eyed Crow) warged into Ghost and made that happen (because otherwise it would be bad writing and GRRM doesn’t just write in things where someone just “stumbled” over a super important item in the middle of nowhere). Bloodraven has been there, working behind the scenes for a long time. This is the sort of thing he could/would do.
Samwell gets a hold of the horn and takes it with him everywhere. Even when Samwell sells everything he has he keeps the horn. He almost certainly brought it with him to Winterfell.
Throughout the seasons they are sure to occasionally have something happen in the crypts. If they are just a superfluous place why bother with a whole set and filming scenes there?
The crypts now feature in the new opening credit roll.
I honestly have no idea what will happen and while the horn is presumably a really important thing it also would seem a bit out of left field for it to save the day. That also doesn’t seem their style in this series. I mean, it has been in the series but very low key. Seems weird for it to be nothing. Seems weird if it saves the day.
Perhaps it figures in later when(if) they go far north to the Night King’s home and do something there.
What does seem certain is the crypts will figure in somehow.
No clue but fun to think about.
As to 55 days filming I read somewhere that this is the longest battle scene ever put to film. Movie or TV.
It’s true, this man has no dick. Also, just because YOU can’t say it. . … OK, I’ll not talk like I’m black. Sorry.
I have not followed the posts you referenced (just got here) but there is, indeed, a black man (Grey Worm) in the show (with a very prominent role) who has no dick. Him and all the soldiers he fights with (the Unsullied) are all eunuchs. While they may all be eunuchs they are widely considered one of the finest fighting forces in the world so demeaning them for their lack of genitals is unwise.
What would be awesome is if the dead in the crypts rise, everybody panics, and then they go fight the Army of the Dead because they are all Starks!
See post #228. It might happen.
On the flip side, from the episode 3 trailer, we see Arya running away in fear from something in Winterfell. Arya in episode 2 seemed to be looking forward to seeing the undead. Seems she got her wish and normally unflappable Arya is seriously spooked. I wonder if it is her mom who is after her (in the books her mom is already a walking dead…thing…that kills any Lannister and Frey she can get her hands on…obviously very different than the TV show).
Dunno…
What books? My understanding was that references to the books were to be avoided in this thread.
Sorry…my bad.
Human sacrifice, direwolves and dragons living together… mass hysteria!
Yeah, to the best of my recollection none of that stuff has happened in the TV show, so it’s certain they won’t bring it in now.
Danaerys first war council was in fact remarkable for its dearth of dicks, being composed of five women (two of them bisexual) and three eunuchs. The only fully-equipped male was a dwarf.
I think Dany is a case of power corrupts. She feels like she’s the chosen one and has a streak of successes that made her believe fate was on her side. She learned that done degree of brutality was needed in Mereen even though Jorah and Tyrion blunted the worst of her tendencies.
Now she it’s finally close to achieving her ultimate goals, and some Westerosi nobles aren’t going to stop her. They better bow down and get with the program. Don’t they know who she is?
I actually find her creeping corruption and obsession with dominating everyone to have been pretty well done and set up for a while, and I’m usually super critical of the writers mishandling characters.
Maybe the audience bought into her being the Chosen One who will fix everything, and now that we see her more human and petty side it seems incongruous. But I think they handled this one pretty well. I’m fine with someone being forced to stab her in the face when/if her megalomania threatens humanity.
I’m pretty sure there was a horn in the cache Sam and Grenn found on the Fist of the First men, but I don’t think it will be revisited. I also think the Valonqar theory is forgotten at this point too.
The Horn of Winter was definitely in the TV show. They did not know it was the Horn of Winter (at the time) but they found it and Sam keeps it realizing it is important.
I seriously doubt they would have made that scene if nothing was to come of it.
