Game of Thrones 8.04 "The Last of the Starks" 5/5/2019 [Show discussion]

I seem to recall Rhaegal plunging into the sea. Who would be around him there?

Both Beric and Jon were resurrected by the now-dead Melisandre.

We have no reason to believe that anyone other than Melisandre is capable of resurrection.

I’ve been reading this thread as it developed, but I don’t think I’ve seen this question raised or answered: why is the episode called “The last of the Starks”?

So, you find him… jarring?

Dare I say…Jar-jarring?

From a narrative point of view, what good does it do to bring back one dragon when they already have one?

Having Rhaegal killed serve a narrative function. Many functions. It makes Euron seem even more dangerous; it tells the viewer that the forces of Cersei Lannister have the capability to kill dragons; it furthers Daenerys’s fury and rage and unwillingness to compromise or plan.

Having Rhaegal come back doesn’t really do a lot, unless having two separate dragon-oriented battles is important to the story and I sure hope it’s not because we have enough to deal with. The point of having dragons is that Daenerys is the only person with an air force. If you think about it, most of the time it hasn’t really mattered if she had one, two or three dragons. That number has really only been important in

  1. That it allowed for the Night King to get one,
  2. That it allowed for Dany to suffer loss, and
  3. That it allowed for Dany and Jon to have a romantic dragon ride together.

None of those matter anymore; the Night King is now chipped ice, Daenerys is as pissed off and frustrated as she can get, and her and Jon are clearly on the outs and don’t have time for fun rides. If air support from a dragon is going to matter in the next two episodes, you really just need one.

Bryan: Booo

It was something Sansa said in the scene where John revealed his true identity.

Jon isn’t a Stark, and Bran and Arya have no interest in carrying on the family name. Sansa’s the last one now, and she’s beginning to act like it.

No, Beric was resurrected (mostly) by the now-dead Thoros of Myr. So we have reason to believe any Red Priest or Priestess could do it.

Thanks both, did not remember that she said that.

Mee-sa pumpin a prince inta the queen.

You’re right, my mistake. Even so, the dead dragon at the bottom of the sea is unlikely to be encountering any Red Priests or Priestesses.

Well Thoros of Myr was the one who resurrected Beric. Though Thoros is also dead.

Edit: Though that was also said.

Granted there are only 2 more episodes, so I don’t think we’ll get a brand new Red Priest to start resurrecting things.

Can we all agree that the story is unfolding for a Danys victory in KL, wiping out Euron ( well maybe Yara will be the one killing him in a ship battle?) and Cersei and becoming the queen and she does something that will lead someone to kill her afterwards?
In the process The Hound fights the Mountain (does the outcome really matter?)
Arya going to KL, is obviously to kill Cersei, theres no other point of her storyline. I dont see her being the one killing Danny. She doesnt have reason to, unless John is killed by Danny??
Jaime could be the one killing Cersei perhaps after finding out she lied and shes not really pregnant?? (Btw is she really pregnant? With the constant time travel going on in the show its hard to tell just how long time has passed, but if she was pregnant it would be visible by now right?)

The north story is closed… dont see what else they bring to the story now. I am hoping to see some conclusion to Bran.

so yeah, I am expecting this big twist, Dany wins against Cersei to be betrayed by someone on her side…

The end.

Yes. At this point the big surprise would be if anything other than that happened.

Dany: “Whats happening?? I cant see anything.”

Greyworm: “Did they just throw a pumpkin off the wall?”

Drogan: “SOMEONE SAY ‘DRACARYS’???”

My predictions on the next two episodes, based on the simplistic fan fiction writing of the series so far.

Grey worm will die
Jon Snow will die
Danerys will die
Cerseri will then get killed by Arya
Gregorstein will chop her, perhaps Tyrion too
Hound kills frankengregor
Jamie kills Hound… for no real reason apart from he’s there, or something
Sansa marries Gendry and rules Westeros, with Davos as the Hand, Varys back to usual
Jamie marries Brienne.
Bran wheels off a cliff

Have I missed anyone?

It was not referring to a single person, I believe, but to the group of them that gathered–Arya, Bran, and Sansa (and they believed, Jon, until he blabbed). Collectively, the last remaining Starks.

Nitpick but Jon is still one of the last of the Starks. He’s just not one of Ned Stark’s children.

Bronn

That’s King Bronn, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms for you, if you don’t mind.

And neither he nor Melisandre actually believed that they could do it (well, Thoros the first time he tried). They just said the words and the Lord of Light made it happen. We’ve only seen two resurrections and they were both in service of killing the Night King, so I think we’re done with that.
