Fixed.
Don’t think that title bodes well for Ellaria and the last sand snake.
You’re probably right.
But if it matches the pattern of similar past titles, it might also refer to Daenerys.
I meant to ask this in last week’s thread but forgot: When Euron promised Cersei a gift, we assume he meant Tyrion. However, it appears to be Ellaria who he had in mind. How did he know where Ellaria was; i.e. on one of Dany’s ships? And if he meant Ellaria or Tyrion, he might as well have thought Dany, since they would each presumably be equally difficult to abduct (at least from Euron’s POV).
That was my thought as well. She’s going to find herself in some dilemma where meting out justice will conflict with keeping her alliance intact.
He might not have had a specific gift in mind when he said he would bring Cersei a gift. He just figured he’d capture or kill somebody important. I personally thought his gift would be a dragon, and still think Euron will get at least one of them, either alive or dead.
Could someone please refresh my mind re the Lannister’s mines getting played out? Who said so, to whom?
More specifically, Tyrion knows this, right? He sold Danny on the importance of capturing Casterly Rock because it was rich and had the best army. But…if they stop being able to pay their wages, their army will go away quickly, won’t it?
So is Tyrion being completely honest in his advice to Danny?
Actually, given the pattern, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it also refers to Sansa having to make some decisions as Queen of the North pro tem.
Heck, maybe Oleanna has something to do, too.
Tywin told Cersei about the mines running dry after Tyrion had been exiled already.
Minor nitpick:
Tywin definitely had this conversation with Cersei, but not before Tyrion left Kings Landing. Tyrion is not exiled, he’s run away from a death sentence and killed Tywin while making his escape. We don’t know if Tyrion is aware of the depletion of the gold supply at Casterly Rock, but we do know he can damn sure make the sewers flow.
So you’re saying the apostrophe is in the wrong place?
The gift is crushing a large part of Daenerys’ naval power. Captives are just an added bonus, but I think planning on capturing a specific person relies on too many coincidences or plot holes.
I figured that one, too, less literally. At least she will have some plot. I’ll be interested to know if Bran’s plot advances this episode.
Checking, Tywin had the conversation with Cersei in episode 5 of season 4. Tyrion was arrested after Joffrey’s death in episode 2, so he wouldn’t have known of that conversation. However, he was made Master of Coin in season 3 so he should have had some idea of the realm’s finances (unless Tywin kept it from him).
On one hand, it’s implausible that the main source of riches for a major house drying up being a big secret after all these years - where are all the displaced mine workers and such - I think it’s overstating it to say that the Lannisters are broke. Storytelling wise that might be what we’re to take from it, but as Warden of the West we’d expect them to be wildly rich simply from controlling the taxes and productivity of an entire kingdom. They may not be outrageously rich like they once were, but they’re far from broke.
I think I know what may happen. Cersci makes it all the way to the north at the end of this season.
Was that Gendry finally rowing ashore in the coming attractions?
Daenerys sure is cocking this up so far.
It strikes me that Cersei is completely out maneuvering Tyrion. Her father’s daughter indeed. And Iron Bank gold to come. Dany is going to need to unleash the dragons to win (though as Jon points out, it’s for a potential Throne of Ash).
Very good episode.
Pro athletes make a ton of money and go broke. The Lannisters might still have had a bit of income, but maintaining the largest army in Westeros is expensive.
I’m not a big fan of Euron’s magical fleet. For the narrative Dany needs some setbacks this season, but the Greyjoys are easily the least powerful of the great houses and have been in a multi-year long war. Them being able teleport around the globe, catch everyone by surprise, and win and naval battle is a bit absurd.
Tyrion with some pretty good diplomacy. I don’t know why Jon Snow doesn’t show people his scars. Might have made an impression on a woman that’s seen some magic in her life.
Are we to understand that the whole of the Reach defected to the Lannister side with Randyll Tarly? I suppose if they hadn’t before, they did after.
Very talk heavy episode, but I dug it.
