Game of Thrones, A Golden Crown, 5/22/11

Doh…good point. :smack:

Does Robert suspect or know that he’s not the father of his wife’s children?

He would have chopped all their heads immediately if he did.

But if if was so obvious to Ned, why wouldn’t it have occurred to Robert at any point to wonder about the hair color? Perhaps the answer is simply that he’s too drunk too much of the time but the previous Hand (Arryn?) figured it out, said something to the wrong person and was killed as a result.

It wasn’t obvious to Ned. Ned spent months thinking about this and investigating it.

And Ned only got on the right track because he was following the Jon Arryn death mystery, and basically hand held by Baelish through all the steps.

Also, Robert owes ‘half his kingdom in debt’ to the Lannisters.
He’d not win any war he started there.

Does anyone think Martin just doesn’t like blondes? The Lannisters and Viserys Targaryen have got to be some of the most despicable characters on TV on Sunday night.

Tyrion and Danys are blondes, seem quite likable.

I think “honorable” would have meant charging in and striking blows on one another’s sword and shield until you missed and hit the other person’s neck instead. Bronn, IIRC, struck his opponent several times on the back and below the belt (literally), not trying to strike killing blows but instead trying to weaken his opponent before the final takedown. He also, as others said, didn’t stand and fight; his running away looked cowardly, and no honorable knight would retreat like that in a battle. It probably wasn’t in the rules because it was unthinkable for a knight to behave in such an unchivalrous fashion. If Bronn were a knight, there’d probably be severe social repercussions for his behavior (consider Lyssa’s words to him and their horrified contempt); but he’s not a knight, so there’s no real downside for him.

Oh, I wouldn’t call Tyrion likable. But Danys seems O.K..

Tyrion’s not exactly a saint, but I think he’s immensely likeable. He’s also one of the only characters who has any real intellect.

That doesn’t make him likable. He’s rude, crude, uncivil, foul-mouthed, bitter and nasty. Which is why he’s a favorite of mine.

And cunning. You forgot cunning.

Wouldn’t you be, with a family like his?

And he’s still, by far, the most likeable member of his family.

If you got plunked down in Westeros, is there anyone you’d rather party with?

Yes, but not until you’re much older than Catelyn, like your 60s…at least judging from all the older redheads I know, including my mom. The one I knew in her 70s said she had started out my color (a mid-range coppery red) and still had strawberry blonde hair, so it looks like it takes a damn long time to fade all the way to white.

Khal Drogo

Dothraki parties seem rather unsettling… ‘A Dothraki wedding without at least three deaths is considered boring’, and all that.

Anyway, there’s a good reason for Ned to assume Jaime’s Joffrey’s father, now that he knows it’s not Robert - the attempt on Bran.

‘Why would the Lannisters try to kill Bran? Because he caught Cercei with her lover, obviously. So, her lover’s in the King’s entourage. Who was she seen with around the time Bran had his fall…?’ A little elimination, and…it’s incest!

Just don’t take him up on any offers of jewelry.
