I don’t mind the minutae of the story. George can talk about what Dany eats all she wants as long as her plot moves forward. That hasn’t happened in an appreciable way in over a decade.
You guys forgot Summer bounding over overturned tables, taking one final leap in front of Robb, only to be shot straight through the heart. It has to be the heart because --no head shots.
Ahem, Greywind.
Dead is dead.
So, are we agreed that Littlefinger basically set the whole story in motion by sparking Jon Arryn’s interest in Robert’s children (or was it Varys?) and then persuading Lysa to poison him?
I laughed at this: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/news/20130306/kingdoms-of-sport/
They put the Highgarden pun in Dorne! The Red Viper wouldn’t let this affront stand.
Speaking of, do you guys all buy the “Oberyn was poisoning Tywin” theory?
Haven’t heard that theory
It basically goes like this:
[ul]
[li]Pycelle or Varys mentions a potion that blocks a person up and rots them from the inside[/li][li]Oberyn poisons people and hates Tywin[/li][li]Oberyn and Tywin eat breakfast together, Tyrion thinks this is weird[/li][li]Oberyn makes a comment about Tywin not being alive forever and grins[/li][li]Tywin dies on the shitter (blocked up inside)[/li][li]Tywin has open oozing sores and is really gross at his funeral[/li][/ul]
I’m pretty sure being gutshot by a crossbow is what killed Tywin.
Who’s saying different?
I think it’s a bit of a reach. Oberyn seems to enjoy poisoning his weapons, but there’s no history of him poisoning anyone’s food (or even being suspected of it, as far as we know). Surely he’d be a bit subtler than that if his plan had been to kill Tywin. Anyway, it’d be unlike Martin to have a plot point like that fizzle out with no pay off. I don’t see any point in having Oberyn poison Tywin without it being discovered or having some kind of consequence at some stage.
Origin of the theory with quotes and such:

It’s an interesting theory. I’m still skeptical though. None of the quotes in the article actually seemed that suspicious to me. Oberyn did obliquely threaten Tywin, but if the Martells wanted justice for Ella, wouldn’t they want it in a much more public fashion? Poisoning someone’s food doesn’t really seem like Oberyn’s style. And again, it doesn’t seem to add anything to the plot.
Just my humble opinion.
Oberyn poisoned Tywin. He didn’t come all the way to King’s Landing just for the social visit. Killing the Mountain and Tywin (thought Tyrion got Tywin quicker) is also the first we see of Dorne getting mobilized for some serious ass kicking, especially since Dorne have been a complete non-entity up until the Red Viper arrives to the capital.
No whores in this scene, then?
I remember Varys telling Tyrion about getting his junk removed, I don’t remember Varys capturing the socerer and showing him to Tyrion.
He didn’t, in the book. That was TV-only.
So the scene where Dany gets her army was one I’ve been looking forward to a LONG time - it’s one of my favorite scenes in the books - and it sort of disappointed. Not horribly so, it still was cool, but I really wanted to see the whole sacking of Astapor and freeing of the slaves played out more.
Plus, I kind of figured they’d have her linger in Astapor just a bit longer, but WTH are they going to do with her for the next few seasons? They’re going to have to make up something not-in-the-book, because I don’t see the sacking of Mereen and her long, boring time there taking up 3+ seasons worth of shows, especially not without Strong Belwas.
I wonder how they’re going to do the “Jorah was a traitor” reveal.
I was happy enough with the Unsullied scene. I knew what was going to happen and I still got shivers, although I agree it would have been cooler if all three dragons had been included in that scene.
Do we know that Strong Belwas won’t be in the show? He may have just not shown up yet. Having one of the Unsullied have a personality would sort of defeat what they’ve been trying to set up the last few shows. Now that they are “free”, having one stand out might still make sense.
