The actor who plays Jaime on the RW and other stuff: http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/07/showbiz/game-of-thrones-finale/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
Well, no Lady Stoneheart as the “stinger.”
I was really expecting a smash-cut after the Mhysa scene, but nope…kind of a lame end to the season, IMO.
Yeah, that was a very slow show. Arya stabbing the shit out of that guy was about the only big scene. I did like that they kept the rat cook in though.
Yeah, I love when the writer’s can sneak book stuff in like that.
It will also (potentially) help set the clues about the “Frey Pies” a few seasons from now when Lord Manderly keeps insisting the band at “Jeyne” and Ramsay’s wedding play the song about him.
Edit: Oh, DigitalC, I just noticed this post of yours in the other thread:
Bravo, I approve.
Stannis getting ready to burn Gendry because one of the leeches worked was kinda retarded.
I agree that the ending was kinda lame. I didn’t like the CGI’d crowd, that overhead shot.
It doesn’t seem like Dany’s been a big part of the show this season. She acquired an army and the dragons are bigger. Is that about it?
They’re making enough changes so that the show will still be interesting to readers. Cersei and Jaime getting together before Joffrey’s death – is that just so she can rail at Jaime later, for not protecting him?
Bolton and Frey’s exposition scene – what did you think of that? Necessary or not?
In the book, didn’t a ranger help Sam and Gilly find the passage? I’m remembering that they got some help from someone, when they were still north of the Wall.
Yeah, Coldhands showed up.
Coldhands, i don’t think they could’ve shown him without spoiling the mystery. Maybe next season, bringing an actor in for one episode doesn’t really work out.
I liked the Frey/Bolton scene. Walder’s such a douche.
Well, we don’t know if he was a ranger, but he wore black and called Sam brother. However, there’s a lot of evidence that Coldhands is dead and hundreds or thousands of years old.
I was wondering how they’d portray Coldhands as well. I guess “totally ignoring” is one way to portray. :dubious:
Yeah, but in the books she didn’t do a whole lot, either. I’m guessing they’ll really play up the love triangle in Mereen next season because there’s nothing else to do with her. I really disliked that part of the books, so I’m not looking forward to it. That said, maybe they can make it better; it can’t get worse or more boring IMO.
I liked the Arya scene, especially the end with her playing with the coin and looking off into the distance all badassy. They’re really playing up how she’s getting hardened; next season will be fun.
I can’t believe the season is over so damn soon. Didn’t it just start?
And the scene with Varys and Shae – if Varys is right and Shae truly loves Tyrion – enough to turn down Varys’ generous offer – what will the writers do to get her to testify against him?
Or will they forego that and have Tywin kill Shae?
I’m feeling better about Martin being so slow to finish the books. The changes they’re making will help.
Oh, and I didn’t like knowing that Stannis will be heading north. That was a nice surprise in the book.
I sure hope not! I loved the scene with Tyrion killing her.
I thought for a moment that maybe they just fundamentally changed her character and she would take off and never be seen again. They certainly are portraying her more as in love with Tyrion than I ever got in the books. In the books, at least for me, she came across as not disliking Tyrion, but also not in love with him. More that she knew she had a good deal being his concubine, and as long as it kept up, she was fine with it. Not so much of that on the show; I can almost believe she loves him.
She does seem to be getting disgruntled, i imagine they are gonna play that up until she betrays him.
I thought perhaps they were planting a seed when she says how much she loves Sansa. If it seems to her that Tyrion poisoned Joffrey and tried to leave Sansa on the hook for it, it’s possible she might turn on him. But still, I don’t see how they’ll pull off keeping his character sympathetic if she has noble motivations of any sort, and he still kills her.
Overall, this was pretty weaksauce. (I’ll enjoy it a lot more when I’m watching it the day before the Season 4 premiere, I’m sure.) It had not one, but two scenes that were supposed to be stirring, but fell flat for me: Yara montage-ing her rescue prep, and Dany’s Mhysa scene. The music in the Yara bit seemed particularly desperate: “YES, you care about these people! You’re invested in Theon being saved! Isn’t this exciting?!!!”
Refresh my memory: Was Yara that gung-ho about rescuing Theon in the book? I don’t remember that. I remember her gathering up her men and going off to fight but I don’t remember Theon being the catalyst.
I do like them sending his dick to them. In the book, wasn’t it a bit of finger skin?
No, Roose Bolton presented the finger skin to Cat before the red wedding. Theon was basically off screen and his story ignore until he came back in book five.
Were they ever this clear about Theon/Reek’s castration in the books? It was on;y implied IIRC.
There really is not much for next season to cover if they do not go into the next two books. Joffery’s and Tywin’s death and Tyrions exile. If its delayed till episode 9, WTH do we have?
No, I’m assuming it’s just filler to give Gemma Whelan some screen time during season 4.
Big battle and stuff at the Wall, introducing the Martells, Arya and the Hound traveling the countryside, the siege of Mereen, Hodor complaining about the cold north of the Wall(though that would be book 5 material I suppose). I wonder if episode 9 will be Tyrion’s trial by combat.
I really can’t wait for this. If they get a good actor for The Red Viper, his scenes will be amazing, especially the Trial by Combat.
And then everyone gets as mad as we were seeing him die…but at least we get our sweet, sweet vengeance. Enjoy your long, slow, agonizing death, Gregor.
I’d love it if they could get back the original actor who played The Mountain…he just looked the part so much better. Tall and beefy! The current guy (did we even see him at all this season?) is too much like a basketball player…tall and lanky.
No, and in fact they don’t even show the actual torture much , just the horrible aftermath. But HBO just wants to get into some of the hot “torture porn” and drive up the ratings.
