Game of Thrones Season 4: [Fully And Openly Spoiled - See Sticky]

I don’t think that’s any new knowledge. Oberyn said that Rhaegar and Lyanna probably fucked, which is what Robert said in the first episode.

I mean, it’s pretty much confirmed no matter what, but this episode isn’t evidence of that, IMO.

So what do we think is up with the necklace that Dontros gave to Sansa? Is it going to take the place of the net-with-gems thing that Olenna gave her in the books which presumably was the poison delivery device? Or maybe Margaery will ask to borrow it for the wedding, and will later return it with one of the gems missing, and we’ll be left to wonder quite whose plan it was from the beginning?

Or maybe they’ll just skip all of that and Joffrey will be poisoned and we’ll have no idea how, past maybe a smug expression on some Tyrell faces?

I think it’ll have be used instead of the hairnet so that it will be obvious, like in the books, that Tyrion is not responsible for Joff’s death. I can’t wait to see how this will play out. Also wondering if the Unsullied cheering of this wedding will match the weeping of the other. I have to say, I was as surprised as I was at the Red Wedding but no where near as emotional when I read it.

I was this close to asking the hairnet/necklace question, then double-checked to see if I was in the right thread. I wasn’t. Whew.

So Lady Olenna will admire the necklace, somehow pry out a stone, and drop it in Joffrey’s cup?

Or she could have another stone – no need to take one of Sansa’s – but then that means suspicion will fall on Sansa, and Olenna seems to like her, so WTF?

Because they will figure out what kind of poison was used, and someone should notice that Sansa wore a necklace made out of those stones.

I am sooooooooooo excited for Sunday. It will have happened in about 48 hours.

I think it’s the necklace. I don’t mind little changes like that, things that keep the show fresh for BookWalkers while retaining the spirit of the books.

Fair enough, although he did say “left” Elia for another woman, implying it was more than a mere one time thing. Of course, that’s speculation and not confirmation. They could have left out the bit about another women and Rhaegar leaving Elia and it still would have had the same impact. Elia was by marriage, after all, a Targaryen and the Lannisters had more than enough motive to kill her. Anyway, you’re probably right. I just got over excited.

I did exactly that last year of the year before, and actually posted in the wrong thread. Fortunately I wasn’t discussing anything significant.

I suspect “seems” is the operative word here. She has nothing against her, presumably, but if she can be conveniently used to protect her own great-daughter…

The poison has nothing to do with the stones. My understanding is that there’s a fake hollow stone containing it. So, identifying the poison doesn’t help in finding out how it was brought in, and there’s no reason to suspect Sansa just because she was wearing this particular necklace.

Can’t wait to see that little shit clawing at his own neck and dying.

Also Tyrion refusing to be the entertainment will be nice.

This article talks about Joffrey’s death and a poison made from purple stones. Scroll down to “The Hairnet”.

I don’t think anyone figures out the connection between Sansa’s hairnet and the poison in the books. Tyrion assumes Sansa did it but he doesn’t know how.

Also those necklace stones are huge. I think it’d be pretty obvious if someone plopped one of those into your wine glass. It does seem like they’re setting up the necklace to replace the hairnet but I’m just curious as to how they’re going to do that exactly.

Indeed, you’re right. From purple crystals extracted from some plant, apparently, which I guess can be mistaken for some purple mineral.

well, we saw the same poison in use on the show when Cressen tried to kill Melisandre. If they are clever, they’ll make it look the same. I don’t remember if we got a good look at the crystals back then, and I don’t have the ep on my tivo anymore to check.

Here is the exact moment that he grabs the jewel and drops it into the cup. Unfortunately, at least for me, you don’t really see the jewel at all.

Oh, I hope they don’t do that. That was a pretty awkward scene in the show and we never see who does the poisoning in the book. I’d like a little more subtlety out of the show when they can get away with it.

I thought the poisoning was well done. You can see the crystal missing after Olenna talks to Sansa.

I was really bored throughout the episode though. Hmm.

Oh, and the way that Olenna was framed during the ceremony during the “he who would tear them apart” line was clever.

Me too, kinda. Comes from being spoiled, probably. And I had forgotten that there were three wedding scenes featuring food. Is it now? How about now?

None of the scene with Tyrion and Shae worked for me. Tyrion is a lousy actor, which means Dinklage is good at playing a bad actor, so I was surprised that Shae was fooled. Why didn’t he simply tell her that there was a threat against her life?

The scene with Ramsay getting a shave was the highlight for me. Also the chit-chat with Oberyn and Ellyria and Cersei and Tywin.

I figured he thought she wouldn’t care about the threat against her life and would only leave if he broke up with her.

I don’t think Tyrion lied to Shae. He did not say he didn’t love her, just that he could not have a real relationship with a whore, which is technically true.

I can’t wait for her to show up at his trial.

Didn’t enjoy this episode as much as I expected. Various little things from the wedding bugged me, including that Joffrey’s death was too clearly the result of poison. In the books his death closely resembles someone choking on his pie (only an autopsy confirms otherwise), so while we’re *pretty *sure that’s not the case, there’s at least some ambiguity.

I also don’t entirely get the fight with Shae. Am I misremembering, or was there no such scene in the books? It seems to me the only purpose that scene could have would be to make Shae more sympathetic when she betrays Tyrion at his trial … but why make that change? It WAS a particularly brutal betrayal, but that’s what made it hit home, AND it suggested that maybe Shae *never *cared about Tyrion, that she was just a whore riding her meal ticket and faking all her professions of love. Now it’s going to seem like Tyrion is a victim of circumstance, a wacky misunderstanding (just with tragic consequences).

For all the supposed in-universe expense, this episode felt cheap. That lion head… when did Westeros get fiberglass sculptures? The reception should have been filmed in the throne room.

While I did like the five dwarf kings and the offense to the Martells, it’s clear the Penny character has been written out of the show. Every time this happens, it’s an indictment of Martin’s sprawl, and an assurance that he’s pissing away our time on tertiary characters.
