Game of Thrones Season 6 open show/book discussion thread [spoilers]

I really did not like the Frey pie scene. It makes no sense. Arya travelled halfway around the world, she kills two of them, manages to grind them by hand in short order without being discovered (not a fun task without a motor). Then she brings the pie to Walder, and confronts him before he even eats it (or maybe he had a small bite?). Compare that to just visiting and killing the three of them quickly. She is even allowed the same death quip, which is not relevant to the making of pies. It didn’t have to be Manderley to do it, but the original scene was much better, as it highlighted that is was okay to betray allies and murder them, but betraying guest right, as Walder did, was beyond the pale. They could’ve even had Arya kill him in a later scene if they wanted.

Are we supposed to assume that Unella was left to be raped by Gregor? I kind of assumed his equipment would’ve stopped working by this point. I was watching on a small screen; was there anything special we could see when he removed his helmet besides ugly? The books make it seem like he doesn’t have a head at all.

Interesting - although it also points out that since Tommen kicked Jaime out of the Kingsguard, he should technically be back in the line of succession now, and as a man he’d come before Cersei despite being the younger twin. He would also have been ahead of his uncle Kevan as head of the House, but doesn’t appear to have been interested in asserting that.

However, Euron’s supporters greatly outnumber the dissatisfied Ironborn, by about 10:1 if he ends up having 1,000 ships to their hundred.

If Smalljon Umber’s reaction was any indication, no one in the North actually believed this story, and I guess he didn’t really have any enthusiastic allies, so maybe that part is more plausible after all.

I think it’s not uncommon for creators to assume that the viewers/readers will arrive at the right conclusion, even if it turns out they left out some crucial pieces of dialogue or left important film on the cutting room floor. There’s not much downtime, so they might not have the luxury of showing the rough cuts to a virgin audience and asking them what they thought just happened, and making changes based on that.

That was my assumption. Rape need not be with a working equipment, if one is sadistic enough. And we know that Gregor is a sadist.

Those numbers sound right, but as of now: I might be misremembering, but wasn’t Euron’s plan basically:

  1. Get elected
  2. ???
  3. Profit!

He won with empty promises about what he was capable of, and that he would build ships, but no, he didn’t actually have many ships at the time.

Yeah, it might’ve been creepier though to give her the Falyse Stokeworth treatment.

It’s not conveyed very well, but he already ate a whole slice (it’s what he was finishing off when the scene started) and she was offering him a second piece. Matching the rat cook story.

Daenerys would take the big chair, Littlefinger would have a smaller throne beside hers.

Right of conquest; it just happens that he only thing she’s “conquered” is King’s Landing.

The theory that she’s there, and there’s nobody around to stop her. It makes perfect sense that she would assume rule at this point in time when there’s no other legitimate claimant to the throne. There will be people coming to contest her claim shortly, and that will lead us into the spectacular ending to the series. But for now, things in King’s Landing are progressing exactly as one would expect them to.

He’s got rigor mortis on his side. :stuck_out_tongue:

It doesn’t seem that the claims are canon. The link the article points to for the Baratheon family tree is broken and the furthest official Baratheon family tree goes to the Baratheon (Ormond) who married Aegon V’s daughter (not counting people like Orys Baratheon, Aegon I’s bastard brother, who have been briefly named but never really connected to the whole… well, aside from I guess, Orys was the founder of the line).

And as mentioned, Jamie can inherit now. But right now it’s power that controls. Cersei, if you think of it, is a new Usurper. But then again, no one knows who’d be next to inherit anyway.

Thanks, really hard to tell when watching on a laptop through Xfinity. I only assumed he saw a finger.

Straight choice for President Donald Trump or Lady Lyanna Mormont …

Is that even a question?

Hell, I’m even willing to overlook that she’s underage and not a U.S. citizen!

Where’s Gendry been all this time, anyway?: http://img.ifcdn.com/images/2fdfb34ea3a0d9415e4ff9322234cf576fe7357a95862778efb9ddf42ec3468e_1.jpg
