Game recommendations

I’m not much of a gamer these days, but I recently decided to get a new laptop, and I was wondering if there were any games worth playing that this laptop could actually play, if you know what I mean.

It has an Intel I3 processor, and a dedicated graphics card (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 with 1GB Dedicated RAM). Not much I know, but then I am not hard to please.

Any suggestions?

Oh, and I am only talking single player games, I have no interest whatsoever in online multiplayer or any of that guff. No RPG’s either, stats and waiting for enemies to take their turn isnt my idea of fun.

Portal/portal 2

I guess I should post what I already have.

Half life 2 and episodes
Portal
Various Stronghold games
Various Command and conquer games
Homeworld
Thief 3
Ground control 1

What kinds of games do you like?

If you like puzzle games Cogs is quite excellent. Toki Tori and Puzzle Dimension are also very good.

If you like something more platform-y LIMBO and The Misadventures of PB Winterbottom are both excellent platform-puzzlers.

Sorry if this is looking like an ad for Steam but they’re an excellent resource for any type of game you could want.

The Hitman games are all excellent. The Left 4 Dead games are great if you’re into the zombie thing.

I am a resident evil fan, so the zombie thing is good, but how is Left 4 dead for single players? I hear it is mainly a multiplayer game, is the single player campaign worth it?

Not remotely. Offline is just terrible bots.

I’m also of the “not into the multiplayer thing” ilk and I very much enjoyed both Left 4 Dead games. Your computer controlled allies are actually quite effective, unlike in other “squad” games where you still have to do everything yourself. You still have to lead the party as they need you to lead them forward, but once you enter an area and the zombies start swarming, you can actually hang back and let your CPU friends do all of the work if you want.

While you said no RPGs, Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas can be viewed as FPSes with great stories and RPG elements. No waiting for turns, either.

You might also look into Starcraft 2, if that’s your thing.

The Call of Duty series has excellent single player, if a bit short.
