Game: spot the obscure movie/book/etc.. references in doper's nicks

I’ve always read this as Fretful Porcupine. Who knew?

Someone mentioned the source of my nickname in a Cafe Society thread a week ago. They didn’t mention the name, but I was still surprised to see it come up.

Oh, like MSTies can manage NOT to demonstrate geek cred…

Mine’s pretty easy, I think.

If anyone wants the answer, I’m a reference to this.

There’s a new poster on the board called ReaperMort. Another Terry Pratchett reference.

Really? Mine’s a tough one? Kind of a cultish b-movie, but still…

Mine is also from the B-movie realm.

Cherry 2000 was an old B sci-fi movie starring Melanie Griffith (of all people  ).

Since I love sci-fi movies (and even B movies), and have red hair…it seemed like a natural choice

An Ass for a Hat could be taken as a reference to Oliver Sachs’s book “The Man who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.”

Smeghead - a now cult reference to the piece of slang Lister uses through most of the Red Dwarf series and will probably use even more in the upcoming movie

Feel better?

Without Googling, I can say that Splanky is from Mad About You – it was the early-childhood nickname of either Paul or his cousin Ira.

[QUOTE]

That may be true, but I actually got it from the Count Basie song written some 75+ years ago.

I assumed this was from City Slickers, when Bruno Kirby tells Daniel Stern’s character that he wants to wear the Helen Slater character’s ass for a hat or something like that…

still waiting for the movie reference for my username…

And, actually, it’s not true. The nickname was “SplInky.”

:smack:

Proofread next time. It’s Splinky. With an I.

Perhaps, at the time she was active, she was living “across the sea” in Japan.
**Crunchy Frog ** is named for a Monty Python sketch.

Nah, AugestWest ain’t dead.

But he knows that the life he’s livin’s no good. He’ll get a new start, live the life he should.

It seem sthat noone has posted this one yet. Rilchiam is from Carroll’s The Hunting of the Snark.

I just thought it was a reference to asshats.

Anyone know what mine refers to?

No. :frowning: I had to mention myself. SOB

I just saw a Club 33 posting in another thread. That’s the name of the private club in New Orleans Square at Disneyland.

That is the nickname that Eddie Wilson gave to Tom Berenger’s character in Eddie and the Cruisers.
