Game: spot the obscure movie/book/etc.. references in doper's nicks

It’s so nice to be recognized, VampyChick.

All the ones I knew have been posted already.

It’s also the name of Patrick Swayze’s character in Point Break.

I just watched this movie a few weeks ago, and whenever I see your name, I think PINK.

The classic story by Edgar Allen Poe?

Made into movies one of which starred Bela Lugosi and a very young Jack Nicholson.

Can’t be or you would quoth, “Nevermore!”

When I first saw your name, I thought of “To Kill A Mockingbird”

You sure? I remember a game called “Zombies ate My Neighbors” but not “Zombies ate my Brain”

Might HPL stand for Howard Phillip Lovecraft?

My name is based on a fairly obscure Simpson’s reference. Anybody know the particulars? (Think Apu’s defective freezer.)

One of the old guys Grampa hangs with (Jasper? The guy with the beard, anyway) locked himself in Apu’s freezer as cheap chryogenics… Apu made him an attraction to draw in customers, calling him Frostillicus.

Don’t think it’s all that obscure…

Don’t forget me: Pochacco.
There’s a HelloKitty too.

That would be Apu’s name for Jasper after he froze himself in the cooler.

With the collection of people here I doubt any Simpsons reference could be obscure enough. Good name and episode though. For whatever the opinion of a guy with fish named “Blinky” and “Bitey” is worth.

Myself? Throw it into Google or Amazon.com. Title character from an Ouspensky story.

Hi-jack for SpiralScratch or any other Buzzcocks fans out there : Howard Devoto apparently based parts of “Boredom” off the Spiralscratch EP on the story.

The long-gone oldscratch and the more recently-here-but-I-haven’t seen him in ages Ich bin’s are the only ones who I recall commenting on it. You can be #3.

Ya been rubbin your nub?

Actually, the poster has said he took his name from this book. Hmm, I see upon reading the page that Susan StoHelit is also a Discworld reference.

JohnBckWLD: I’ve always assumed Ukulele Ike took that name from a sobriquet for Cliff Edwards, the man perhaps best known for being the voice of Jiminy Cricket.

WIGGUM is yet another Simpsons reference (unless that poster has a really obscure alternate explanation).

Without Googling, I can say that Splanky is from Mad About You – it was the early-childhood nickname of either Paul or his cousin Ira.

Elmer Fudd’s mispronunciation of a certain word inspired twickster when it came time for her to select a screen name.

Linus Van Pelt is the boy with the security blanket in the Peanuts strip. BJMoose is a nod to Bullwinkle. Not that either of those are obscure to many, if any, Dopers

That is not dead which can eternal lie,
And with strange aeons even death may die.

He now goes by the name of Rune.

There’s also a poster named Susie Derkins, Calvin’s nemesis in Calvin & Hobbes.

Oh yeah, and mine’s not a reference to anything cultural, despite how often it comes up in Star Wars threads.

I have it straight from the horses mouth (so to speak) that he took the name from the Batman villain. But not just the Batman villain, the Batman villain as portrayed on the '80s kiddie cartoon Superfriends. Which demonstrates an interesting principle: naming yourself after something incredibly lame, is amazingly cool. I have no idea how that works.

I don’t know that it would even occur to anyone to include my screen name in this thread, but once I’ve pointed out that it belongs, I’m sure someone will guess it almost immediately.

Barney or Tale?

The Death of a Salesman guy? Or the beer?

Anybody want to guess mine?

then you got it from ‘satyr’ in Chinese?
