[GAME]The Resistance - Mafia-Like Game

Certainly no hard feelings from me. I thought you did a great job of suckering us all in. At one point (#227) I thought I’d deduced a high likelihood that you and Stanislaus were Spy partners, but on review I think I found a post distancing you two. :smack:

I’m starting to guess that smart Spies will make the game extremely hard for Resistance to win without “table feels.” Any other computer programmers feel like writing players and running simulations?

Congrats to the winners and I am totally up for playing again if we modify it somehow to make it a little better balanced.

I wonder if there is someway to merge Resistance and Mafia.

For example, call town “Resistance” and the scum “Spies” and we could still use the missions in a different way. If the town is successful on mission, they could receive some kind of bonus. If the scum are successful in ruining a mission, they could receive some kind of bonus.

Basically, using this game as a small internal side-game-with-bonuses in an otherwise regular mafia game.

I’d be willing to co-develop and even co-mod a game like that, if mental or someone else wants to help develop it.

I was thinking along those lines while the Resistance game was going on. The problem I see is that Mafia creates a negative feedback loop with itself in the sense that when Scum is lynched, the probability of lynching scum the next round goes down. Conversely, lynching Town makes the probability of lynching scum the next round go up.

Resistance creates a positive feedback with the Mafia lynch mechanism. If Town correctly lynches Scum, then Town is MORE likely to have a successful mission. In other words, putting resistance elements into mafia (and rewarding Town for successful missions) would serve to help whichever team is already in the lead.

I’m not saying that a hybrid isn’t possible. I just have trouble with the feedback issue.

If you want to develop a game together for it, I’d be up for it even if we do it just to try it. It may be unabalanced, but we could give it a shot.
