[GAME] The Resistance - Take 2

Yes, I’ve accomplished more than clairobscur, who has done nothing but insinuate that anything I say is suspicious. He himself admits that what he thinks is evidence is flimsy. I’ve had enough of that bullcrap. You know what reeks of Imperial Spy behavior? Tossing around ill-founded accusations, sowing confusion and discord among loyal members of the Resistance.

clairobscur is a spy and I am rejecting the team.

I’m accepting the team, because I’m on it and because of the following:

I’m not convinced about the argument on clairobscur: Spies will try to muddy the waters, but there’s a shortage of hard information in this game so penalising people for voicing less than concrete suspicions will lead to paralysis. But the point is, if he **is **a Spy, a vocal public accusation against him means his best play is to let the mission succeed. I like this - I really think the way to win this game is to force the spies into a position where they can’t fail the mission even if they want to.

Yes: either by the vocal accusation or by having multiple spies who can’t coordinate their efforts. That’s our biggest advantage: we can openly coordinate amongst ourselves, and (in general) having the spies hear that is of no real consequence.

I think we should have kept the same team as the first one plus one person.

Sorry for not posting, I thought we were taking a hiatus until the end of the week. I am having a terrible time figuring out this game and will probably not play another. I thought I would have a better handle on it the second time aroung, but not so much. In mafia we usually end up with some concrete evidence at the end of every round (Day/Night cycle). Here it’s all supposition day after day.

I have no clue why anyone considers both Bricker and Terminous resistance because the first team succeeded. We need a lot more evidence than that before we “clear” anyone of being a spy.

Having said that I accept Bricker’s team as proposed above.

There is no information and the vast majority of this game is guessing. It’s still a major flaw and I don’t get how it is different in person.

You were a spy last time, so there shouldn’t have been much to figure out, unless it was how to pull the wool over the eyes of the Resistance. This leads me to believe that you’re either Resistance this time around or a spy playing some ultra-deep meta-game. I lean towards the former.

You can see the shifty eyes.

Here are the votes in random order:

clairobscur - accept
Stanislaus - accept
Mahaloth - reject
sinjin - accept
Bricker - accept
Terminus Est - reject
TexCat - reject
So, mission 2.1 has been accepted. The team of TexCat, Stanislaus, and clairobscur will go on the mission. Resistance members on the team, you can message me your choice to have the mission succeed if you like, but it is not necessary. Spies, you do need to message me by 10:00 am central time tomorrow (Tuesday, December 2nd) with whether you want the mission to succeed or fail.

One thing I ask myself about proposed missions is: can I tell if the spies like the team? 100% approval means that all the spies liked the team.

That didn’t happen here. But it’s still possible that all the spies liked the team.

Let’s see how the mission goes. If the electrical substation that controls power to the Central Committee’s offices goes dark, I think the Resistance can win. The spies almost have to fail this to have a chance.

With only 3 reject votes, 2 of those from the town column (Terminus and me). It looks to me like the spies loved the team, and so pretty much guarantees the team has exactly one spy and will fail. I’m pretty sure that Stanislaus is that one spy and that puts Clair into my town column.

My guess is that town is me, Clair, Terminus, and Mahaloth. Spies are Stanislaus, Bricker, and sinjin. Both lists in decreasing order of confidence.

I guess “town” is “honest resistance members”?
May I ask why you put yourself and Terminus in your original “town” list?

Yes. Town is a mafia term for the good guys and a habit, not to mention easier and shorter to type.

I know I’m Resistance. Terminus is there because he proposed and went on the successful mission. Bricker is not there because he was so willing to take Stanislaus’s bad advice and propose this team.

With no failures yet, I have no list except the obvious (to me) fact that I am loyal to the Resistance. Of course, that fact isn’t quite so clear to the rest of you.

(Playing the game IRL with my son and his friends, I remember my son’s anguished comment: “I swear I’m Resistance. I have the bald guy!” This sparked a set of comments which unfortunately unmasked the spies illegally, since every Resistance member described his card’s avatar and the spies were caught flatfooted, unable to recall what the blue cards’ faces looked like. The new rule at the house is: not only can’t you show the card – you can’t DESCRIBE it, other than to affirm it’s a Resistance member.)

I’m curious: if this team turns out to produce a successful mission, will you change your tune?

2nd attempted mission is over. Mission votes are:

succeed
fail
succeed

The mission fails.

Current score:

Resistance: 1 Spies: 1

TexCat, you need to nominate a team of 3 players for mission 3.
Please send me a PM with your nominations by 10:00 am central time tomorrow (Wednesday, December 3).

Well, crap.

No need to change that tune.

I’m not a spy, but I might have been played.

On the other hand, we got one fail, which most likely means exactly one spy on that mission.

I spent a while thinking about the accept/reject votes and the possible results of the mission, and I must say I’m surprised by the amount of information that could be deduced from them. I must admit that until now I had the feeling that one could gather almost no information in a so limited number of rounds, and that whose side would win would be mostly dependant on whether we would be lucky or not in the selection of the first 3 members team. Also, I had thought that being part of the team was mostly advantageous in the sense that that’s one guaranteed non-spy and if the mission fails, I know for sure that only one of the two others can be the culprit, instead of three suspects. But the votes bring in much more informations than what I expected, and in certain situations, a quasi-certainty (for me) about who can be a spy, thanks to being part of the team. Unless of course this unexpected abundance of information leads to some behaviours intended to confuse and that I would have initially considered as making no sense.

I eventually gave up and decided to wait for the results, since trying to figure out what people who aren’t part of the team can deduce, or whether scenarios that I outright excluded at first (like a spy voting against a “dream team” of two resistance+1 spy) could make sense or not was complicated when I had to check the various outcomes (success, one sabotage vote, two sabotage votes), so that I would be better off waiting.
Anyway, the game seems more interesting than I was thinking just before the accept/reject votes. I’m still not completely certain than luck doesn’t have too great an importance in this game, however. Maybe I should try a Mafia game one of these days.

My initial thoughts for a team for mission 3 would be me & Clair. I’d like suggestions for the third member. Mahaloth, Terminus, or Bricker?

And now that the results are out, I guess I’ll have to rethink my guesses. Deciding on a team before tomorrow morning seems short. I hope excat will start making making proposals soon.
