Heads up, guys. There’s a supertyphoon bearing down on the country, forecast to hit sometime over the weekend. Depending on the storm’s exact path, I may be out of power or internet for a while.
“May you live in interesting times.”
Stay safe, Terminus.
Yes, stay safe! And I hope you don’t lose power for too long. I remember our last hurricane when we were powerless for about 10 very miserable days. I don’t want to do that again and hope you don’t have to.
I wonder if Mission 3.1 is a go?
Sorry for the delay.
Here are the votes in random order:
Mahaloth - approve
Bricker - approve
clairobscur - reject
Terminus Est - approve
Stanislaus - reject
TexCat - approve
sinjin - approve
So, mission 3.1 has been accepted. The team of clairobscur, Mahaloth, and Terminus Est will go on the mission. Resistance members on the team, you can message me your choice to have the mission succeed if you like, but it is not necessary. Spies, you do need to message me by 3 pm central time tomorrow (Saturday, December 6th) with whether you want the mission to succeed or fail.
Oh dear, that looks like way too many approvals.
Clair? Why did you reject?
Yes, spie(s) guaranteed.
As I wrote, I’d have prefered you on the team, rather than two unknows. At first I thought I would approve and see, but I reread again Terminus’s messages, and I’m still pretty convinced he’s a spy. I hesitated a lot, but at the last moment, I decided I would vote against. I thought that one way or the other, we might learn something from the votes.
When I announced the results of the vote today, I was at work and rather rushed. I wasn’t really thinking about the situation with Terminus. After getting home and spending some time thinking about it, I realized that Terminus being out of touch could cause implications.
If the mission fails and Terminus is not available that would suggest one of the other players is a spy. On the other hand, if I just waited for a response, it would imply that I needed him to respond because he is a spy.
So, I have decided that the results of the mission will not be announced until I have received either a succeed or fail vote from Terminus. You should not imply any alignment from this. I just want to make sure that everyone knows that Terminus is actively playing when the results are announced.
The typhoon is still making its extremely slow way across the Pacific. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a strong storm move so slowly before. I should still be good for the next 24 hours or so.
As to game matters:
I was thinking about the team of me, clairobscur, and Mahaloth when TexCat made the formal nomination. Since we were clearly thinking along the same lines, I accepted the team. I’m sad to see that at least one spy also liked it.
3rd attempted mission is over. Mission votes are:
fail
succeed
succeed
The mission fails.
Current score:
Resistance: 1 Spies: 2
clairobscur, you need to nominate a team of 4 players for mission 4. This mission will require two fail votes to fail the mission.
Please send me a PM with your nominations by 7:00 pm central time tomorrow (Sunday, December 7).
Can we say (hopefully) there’s only one spy on that mission?
The spies have no more barriers. They won’t mind being “unmasked” by failing because the next failure wins it for them.
So if we can add one safe person to that team, we can hopefully win mission 4.
I think I will remove my statement about being possible to deduce a significant amount of informations. I can’t find a way to deduce anything. I envisioned various things, like Terminus+Mahaloth or Bricker+Stanislaus as possible pairs of accomplices, for instance, but it didn’t bring me anywhere.
First, I’m going to nominate myself for obvious reasons. For the rest of the team, I have two completely different proposals : a “gut feeling” proposal, and a “numbers” proposal (for this one I counted -1 for proposing a team that failed, -1 for being part of a team that failed, -1 for approving a team that failed, +1 for rejecting a team that failed. Three players for a total of only -1, the others did worse). Unfortunately, they’re completely different, apart from Mahaloth.
“Gut feeling” proposal : Texcat+Mahaloth+Sinjin
“numbers” proposal : Terminus Est+Stanislaus+Mahaloth
I now realize that the second is guaranteed to include one spy. It would follow Bricker’s proposal (same team as before+1 new person), hoping that there was only one spy this time, but even assuming it works, we’ll have to replace someone next time, and whom? To be replaced by whom? We could as well try the exchange right now and pray. I’m a bit at a loss, frankly.
Ideas? Opinions?
Mission 4 requires four players, with two FAIL votes required for failure. Bricker was suggesting the same three as the previous mission, plus one additional. Assuming there’s only one spy in the previous team of three, the remaining four players will have two spies. You’d have a 50% chance of randomly picking out either a spy or a rebel. You might want to consider using one of the two who rejected the TexCat’s team, either sinjin or Stanislaus.
However, Stanislaus made that laughably bad comment about TexCat’s team:
so maybe you should go with sinjin.
As the storm makes its slow passage across the country, it’s now forecast to start affecting the city tomorrow. In all likelihood the eye will pass south of us, so we’ll hopefully be spared the worst effects.
Sinjin didn’t reject Texcat’s team.
Good luck.
OK. Terminus last comment was one weirdness too many. I’m going with the hypothesis he’s a spy. I also won’t trust Bricker who proposed one failed team and approved both.
I’m left with Texcat, Stanislaus, Mahaloth and Sinjin. Sinjin being pushed by Terminus, I’ll go without him.
So, instead of reconducting the previous team (that included Terminus), I’m reconducting the previous one + Mahaloth who did nothing suspicious so far and rejected one failed team.
So, my proposal will be : Texcat, Clairobscur, Stanislaus, Mahaloth. Observations, before I send the proposal?
That’s a gamble : if I’m wrong about Terminus, then Mahaloth is the spy of team 3, and since there was already one in team 2, there will be two in this one, and we’re going to lose the game.
I made a simple mistake. You are either truly and utterly blind in accusing me of being a spy or you are in fact a spy yourself, as I have said before. In case I lose power, I’m going to preemptively send my REJECTION of that team. In case that team gets approved, I congratulate the spies in advance.
On further consideration, if clairobscur is himself a spy, I wouldn’t put it past him to just put all his cronies on the mission, since spies have absolutely nothing to lose and the game to win if they all go on this mission and vote to fail. So I’ll just reject any team that has two or more of Texcat, Clairobscur, Stanislaus, Mahaloth.
I admited it, it’s a gamble. But anyway, with or without Terminus, even if the team succeed, we’ll know there’s a spy in it and a non-spy amongst the people excluded from it, and the next player will have to try another gamble to decide what exchange to do. So, there’s no way to avoid gambling (and our chance of success are low at this point).
In any case, whoever I add to the team, I have a 50% chance of him being a spy. Even if Terminus was only slightly suspicious, it would be a valid reason to exclude him. And I find him very suspicious.
Which means that you will only approve a mission that includes one from this list +you+ Bricker (who voted twice to approve failed teams) + Sinjin (who voted twice to approve failed teams). What a happy coincidence!
