GameCube owners: Happy?

In Zelda, when you get the sword, go back and practise, and practise more and get comfortable with the controll. There is a special attack that you must have to be able to complete the game. It also makes everything soooo much easier when combatting all creatures. There might be other rewards for training with the old guy…

In Metroid, your gal will need to walk around and backtrack a lot to find all upgrades you need. There are some insanely difficult battles ahead, so while backtracking and killing the same monsters again, you’ll find that those battles get easier. Take your time to read all the info screens, as it’ll make the game easier.

Monkey Target in Moneky Ball is the most addictive party game I’ve played. Much better than the painful Mario party 4.

I don’t know if this game is on other consoles, but NHL Hitz 2003 is quite a fun game with lots of extras for GC…even the opening music and video is totally awesome. It has music from Drowning Pool, Moby, and others…Hitting and fighting are fun to do and watch with the announcers sounding even tighter than previous releases…lots of stuff to unlock…I normally I watch my kids play it (ok, I’ve played 10-20 times also!)…It’s worth renting for a weekend to see if you like to make a season of it…

I am amazed at how many games G-cube has. It is the second best console by far(ps2 being number one).

Not quite. On the Xbox, you have to complete numerous tasks in order to create a topless biker while it’s available from the get go on the GC. The GameCube version also a girl bouncing around in a wet T-Shirt upon the game’s start up; both the PS2 and Xbox only have a company logo instead. Also, you can change the breast size of the females only in the GameCube version.

And yes, F-Zero is awesome (Played it at E3). Can’t wait to pick it up.

Ok, Mission accomplished. I got zelda, metroid prime, and eternal darkness. So I boot the fricking thing up and find out I need a fricking memory card to save games??? That is fricking BS. Couldn’t the asswipe at EB have told me??

Hehe, sorry to hear that KidCharlemagne. Thankfully, they’re pretty cheap. And you picked three excellent games.

Heh. Yeah, forgot to mention that, didn’t we? Welcome to modern game machines. Really sucks getting the damn thing home & finding out you need those stupid memory cards. They’re cheap enough you’d think they’d slip a couple in the box with the game machine. Or at least put in big letters on the box “YOU NEED ONE OF THOSE STUPID FRIGGIN MEMORY CARDS BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS HOME.”

Let us know what you think of the games once you get back from the store.

If you haven’t bought the memory card yet, get the InterAct Memory Card 16X. It has way more space then the Nintendo one. It has surprisingly good quality for a third party memory card; I haven’t had any problems with mine to date.

I’d like to second the vote for NHL Hitz 20-03. It’s a great game, if you like Arcade(ie unrealistic) hockey games. It’s better for multiplayer than single player, though. If you have friends who like multiplayer console gaming, I’d strongly suggest picking up some more controllers and a copy of Super Smash Bros.: Melee. It’s a pretty deep fighter, but easy for a new player to pick up and be decent at it.

My kids and my dh love the Game Cube. We had debated over that or the XBox and my dh said that Nintendo was the way to go for our specific “needs” (is there such a thing as a gaming NEED LOL). Anyway…everyone loves it.

My kids still look for used N64 games as well and still use that system.

I am very happy with my GC as well, and would like to second the recommendation for Super Smash Bros. Melee (SSBM). This is the best fighting game I have ever played. The button configuration results in a game where the learning curve is on the side of defense, so while I played for hours learning moves and practicing, the Mrs. can come in a whip my ass with just the basics. You learn to attack first, but when you have the dodge and sidestep moves down, you are untouchable.
To sum up: You Must Have SSBM!

I’d like to second the Interact 16x memory card. I’ve been using mine for almost two years flawlessly…Actually, it saves and loads files substantially quicker than the standard memory card, which is a huge positive. However, finding one may be difficult now that Interact’s out of business.

SSBM is my kids’ fav too along w/ATV Quad Power Racing II. The freestyle is the best (according to them).

I do miss the days of BBS’s and Adventure Games like Zork.

I’m using a Nyko 64MB memory card. I don’t know exactly how much that is compared to the standard, but it has slightly more than one thousand “pages” on it and has been serving me well for over a year.

Some comments on recommended games:
SSBM: Bring in some friends. You won’t be able to unlock the last two players until you rack up an incredible amount of gameplay time, but with multiple players the time counts for double or triple what you put into it. And once you get those, another whole gameplay option opens up.

Eternal Darkness: If you’ve played Resident Evil before, you’re probably hoarding your ammo and going after everything with your melee weapons - which is fine. But I don’t think I’ve ever run out of bullets, even in Max’s level. You can afford to go a little crazy (pun intended) with the guns.

Zelda: Like has been mentioned before, a portion of the game relies on having played previous versions for “intuition” on what to do next (the rest is handed to you in boldly colored words with not-so-subtle hints). A big conspicuous looking rock? Bomb it. Small wooden target? Hookshot. Unlit torch? Fire arrow. Remember that every single square on the map has something in it - and sometimes it’s not much. And feed the danged fish, he’s your friend.
