The thread on Netflix reminded me to ask - any of y’all using Gamefly? It seems to use a very similar approach to Netflix - you can have 2 games out for as long as you like, no late fees, etc.
If you’re using it, how has your experience been? Worth the ~$22/month?
I was subscribed to GameFly for about a month and a half.
In that time, the first two games sent to me never arrived to my door. The next game made it, but took 4 days to get here (Sunnyvale) from L.A. I sent that one back and they got it, but it took 5 days for them to show it as received. Then they sent my next two games, both of which made it. A week ago I sent back one of their games and it never got to them. When I reported this, they cancelled my account since “this would mean an excessive amount of games on your account have been noted as lost”. I now need to send in the one game I still have here.
The whole experience has left me with the feeling that there’s something else going on. In the same period, I’ve sent and received 12 movies from Netflix, so it’s not like people are stealing things out of my mailbox (not that they could) and the idea that so many discs would get lost in the mail in such a short period of time seems strange to me. That, coupled with the fact that they said one way to keep my account open would be to pay the “buy it” price on the discs that were lost leave me with a distinct feeling of unease.
if what i read about Netflix and Gamefly are true and there is no real penalty for losing a game or DVD…how do they protect from theft? what stops me from paying the $22 monthly fee, ordering two games priced at $50 retail price, claiming they were “lost” and closing down my account?
This is hypothetical BTW, i wouldn’t actually do this.
