GAMES Magazine Cartoon Rebus Help, Please

Any readers of GAMES magazine out there? If so, let’s help each other with this month’s Cartoon Rebuses contest.

I’ve solved #5.

Halle Barry: Hal (word in the scene), E (isolated letter), Bear (element in the scene), E (isolated letter).

I think I’ve solved #3.

The Great Escape: Rate, S, and Cape are all in the scene, but I can’t get Thug (Thug-rate-s-cape) out of it. What am I missing (or is it something else?)?

I think I’ve solved #13.

Barney Gumble: Barn-E-gum-bull. Problem is, I’ve never heard of Barney Gumble. I’ve heard of Barney Rubble, but I’m not getting “rub” out of the scene. Am I off track here?

I’m close on #10.

Jimmy [something]: Gym-me-----. There’s a NUDE in the background, but I can’t seem to place it.

Let’s help each other complete this contest!
I don’t read Games, so I can’t see the rebuses; but could #10 be Gym-me-BUFF-it?

Barney Gumble is a friend of Homer Simpson.
Which month is that? I’ve got September here, and haven’t seen a later one. Maybe I just haven’t noticed it, since the people who ran my favourite bookstore retired last month and I don’t get a call any more when it comes in.

(Note to bookstore owners: This ‘bookstore-subscription’ plan is a great way to get people to come in regularly and buy more than just the magazine!)

October 2002. Arrived in my mailbox last week.

I’ll pick that one up, and see what I can do. I’m not much good at them, though.

These thing are impossible. I’ve been reading Games for a long time and I’ve never figured out ANY of them.

BTW, Barney Gumble is Homer Simpson’s beer buddy who has a famous belch.

For #3:

You’re right that it’s The Great Escape; I believe the “thug” comes from the word balloon, specifically “hood.” The two are synonyms, as slang for “crook.”

As for #10

Have you considered that the background picture might be ADAM and/or EVE?

A few hints:

For #10, it’s essential that you find a synonym for “worry.” Once you find the right synonym, the answer is obvious.

For #3, remember that “hood” has more than one meaning. THink of a synonym for ONE of the meanings of “hood.”

I myself have solved all but 2 of them. I haven’t got the book (3, 5) or the city (chess game).

Okay, I figured out the book… that just leaves #4, the city (the old men playing chess).

Anyone want to drop a hint on that one? I’ll trade a hint on any of the others you’re having trouble with.

#1 is pretty obvious, even though I haven’t the faintest about the others.

Tusk-a-loose-a

I’ve solved #9.

Madagascar: Mad-A-gas-car

As for #4, the city- The only thing I can think of, and I know it’s not correct, is Pawnee (pawn+knee), a town in central IL. FWIW
