I’ve been able to keep up with some aspects of the hobby through www.tabletopgamingnews.com. However, they tend to focus almost exclusively on miniature games. I’m also wanting to keep up on other areas like RPGs and the like.
What other sites are good, and regularly updated?

I used to get much of my gaming news at ENWorld, back when I was keeping abreast of things.
Another good source (though, it’s also a store, so it’s got a commercial bent) is DriveThruRPG/RPGNow.
They concentrate on products released by independent companies.
And the various comics based around RPGs/Gaming (e.g. Penny Arcade, Order of the Stick, Erfworld) usually have blogs done by the writers about the big news at conventions and such.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun, although they focus on PC gaming exclusively.
My husband is a regular on Beyond3D. That is a serious gaming forum, with a focus on the developement side of games; lots of programmers there, including game developers, discussing the technical aspects of gaming.
The OP seemed to be looking for RPG news, but if video gaming is relevant, I check Blue’s News every morning.
