Gaps in eyebrows - natural or self-inflicted.

I’ve seen a few examples of this in young male media stars; a small gap in one of the eyebrows; Brad Pitt has it in Fight Club, I’ve seen it on Robbie Williams in one of his videos, but in others pictures of the two men, it isn’t visible. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen other male idols sporting the eyebrow gap too.

Are they deliberately shaving or plucking a gap in one eyebrow, or is it some natural phenomenon?

Annoyingly, I can’t find a single online image of what I’m describing.

I know exactly what you mean. I always thought it was from plucking or whatever. I have no idea of the real reason. I just wanted to add I’ve seen this phenomenon also.

If you get a big cut/gash that destroys the hair folicles, they don’t get replaced.

At least thats what I’ve been told…

When an eyebrow ring grows out (like just about all of them do) it can leave scar tissue, including a small bald patch in the eyebrow.

But quite a few people do shave gaps into their eyebrows too.

I think the OP is talking about gaps on one brow (IE - above your left eye) not the gap that is supposed to be between the two of them. I know that some uni-brows indeed try to trim so it looks like they have two.

No what I meant is that some people delibrately shave a gap in one of their eyebrows (above the eye) for fashion reasons.

Back in my youthful and stupid days, I accidentally bashed my face wide open on the bass player’s headstock during a show one time (I also broke my foot once). I finished the show covered in blood. The publicity was almost worth the concussion.

Anyway, I never got stitches, and the cut never closed like it would if I had. It left a small but noticeable line in one eyebrow. If you ever meet me at a Dopefest, remind me and I’ll show you.

So bad news: eyebrows won’t grow back over scar tissue.

Good news: chicks dig scars!

I was wondering whether it was supposed to suggest that there has been a scar there; the whole ‘hard man’ bit.

Would Vanilla Ice (circa. 1990) be an example of what you’re talking about?

Regrettably, I don’t have a cite, but he shaved his in.

Dunno if the shaving thing is supposed to represent a scar. It doesn’t really look the same; my thingie doesn’t look shaved, it looks like I hit my head on something. Plus, it doesn’t show too terribly much most of the time, as hair from the side covers it. I guess I have an eyebrow “comb over”.

Besides, how could you pull it off and not be remniscient of Vanilla Ice? Seems like it would be like trying to make one sequined glove “your look”.

It’s a fashion thing. People shave a line through one eyebrow all the time in England right now.

I have several of these in my eyebrows, but mine are not deliberate. Wasn’t aware it was a fashion thing, until now.

They occur on me where I have a scars below, and no hair thus grows back.
(I have many such facial injuries from my (field) hockey days - a good stick in the face never hurt anyone. Right?)

So, as bernse said.

And in Genoa, 'tis now the fashion to pin a live frog to the shoulder-braid, stand on a bucket, and go ‘Bibble’ at passers-by

I don’t know if it’s a fashion thing in this case, but I do know that some people have naturally patchy eyebrows (my mother is one of them). She does have a couple of bald spots that she fills in with eyebrow pencil.

That said, Russian gymnast Yelena Produnova shaved a couple of lines into her eyebrow during the Sydney Olympics–the tv announcers claimed that this was a traditional practice of RUssian warriors or some such thing.

I’ve got a small round scar under one eyebrow that is barely noticeable, no hair grows there. I’ve also got a more noticeable little nick on my upper lip where no hair (I have a mustache) grows. I got that when my sister’s Maltese bit me when I was playfully blowing in his face. People have said that this scar “looks good” and “adds character” but that’s until I tell them how I got it.

I think some people with eyebrow lines are legit, but most are probably shaving a line to make it look like a battle scar. I doubt many people pluck lines into their eyebrows though.

I noticed when Brad Pitt and Robbie Williams had them, and I want one! I think it looks cool.

Richard Dean Anderson has a scar through his left(?) eyebrow.
Dunno if he got it during his MacGuyver days or as a kid or if it’s just a done for his recent role as an air force colonel in Stargate SG-1. It does make me laugh though, how every time he gets hit in the head…they just put fake blood on the eyebrow scar. Everytime! Hmmm, if he kept getting the same cut opened, no wonder it’s a scar!

I remember my bro thought it was pretty sweet and so he shaved a gap right through one of his eyebrows. Idiot. He decided that it wasn’t so cool when he looked in the mirror at the few strangled hairs remaining.

My mum had an accident when she was a kid and cut her brow pretty good. She has a scar through her eyebrow now. Not very vissable but if you happen to be into staring at people’s eyebrows, you couldn’t miss it.

So, for the most part it’s a fassion fad. But those who’ve had their brows cracked open and scar are just naturally cool.

Whoops! Typo. MacGyver not MacGuyver.
Gimme a break. I’ve never even seen an episode!
Is it even shown on british tv?
