Gas Prices In Europe: Bet You Will Be Surprised!

OK, I have lived in Germany and know that gas prices have always been really high.

So, today on a totally unrelated search about AFN Radio and TV - just wondering if AFN still exists there and it does - I found this interesting page of current gas prices in Europe.

Holy crap - I am paying about the same as people pay in most of Europe, and I could buy gas for cheaper in Greece than what I pay in Las Vegas!

Well, so much for that myth of Europeans paying far, far more than we do to fill up their gas tanks!

Oops! BIG TIME ERROR on my part - I think the prices mentioned are for American military on their base…here is perhaps a better list.

I need to read more closely and be sure before I post.

Sorry, sorry, sorry…oh well, at least I did have the good sense to check something that made no sense whatsoever, even if it was a tad too late before creating this thread.

Well, they are still fairly similar to what I see in California. We’re anywhere from 3.90 to 4.30 to MUCH higher if you’re in a gas-trap zone with no other options. Still less than I expected, by comparison.

Yeah, the 1.30 dollars per liter in Holland, really is 1,88 euros.

As of yesterday, A USA size gallon (3.7 litre) of diesel costs the equivalent of $8.60 in the UK, Petrol is a bit cheaper but not much.

I filled up for $3.54.9/gal today. Tennessee

StG

Using the $2/gal off w/ our loyalty card at the local Kroger family store we paid 1.79/gal for 32 gallons between the 2 vehicles.
Holy cow, 8.60.

My daughter just got back from Italy (she lives in Germany) and paid just under $9.00 a gallon. It is just over $4.00 in expensive California.

Having just done a few calculations the British price at the moment of £1.38 per litre works on to £6.20 per gallon which is over $10 in foreign money. And that’s an imperial gallon, not sure if the British gallon is a different measurement to America.

Edit: just checked and an imperial gallon is the same as 1.2 american gallon. We’re screwed!! :frowning:

£1.38 per litre is about $8.50 per US gallon.

Ah, slightly less screwed than I originally calculated (obviously the wrong way!!) Still expensive though

You can type “£1.38 per litre in USD per US gallon” into Google and it will crunch the numbers for you.

Shall remember that for next week when the prices are likely to go up again, I’m not the best at number crunching :o

I did something similar. Typed “1.38 gpb per liter in usd per us gallon” and got the same answer. Didn’t feel like figuring out how to type the pound symbol on my keyboard. Apparently, it’s down to $8.48 now.
