Gas prices- Is this our wake-up call?

We’re back to $1.28/gal unleaded regular (best price) here in NW Florida. Yay. This last spike in prices has left me with a twinge of unexpected environmentalism. All of a sudden a planned dream purchase of an SUV next year seems like a mindless act of ignorance and extravagance.

It seems like Americans take for granted that cheap gasoline is one of our basic rights. I know that we consume a large proportion of the world’s energy output, but do we have an obligation to use it in a more wiser manner? The SUV guzzlebeast doesn’t seem to make sense to me anymore.

Has anyone else felt like I do lately or am I getting to touchy-feely about this for nothing? That Chevy Blazer stills looks pretty good to me!

You do realise that we’re paying the equivelant of about $6.50 a gallon over here in England.

Now thats expensive.
