The gathering (this past weekend) was the first <and hopefully annual!> steampunk and victoriana convention in San Diego, and it was a lot of fun. I only attended one day, and already the Mr. and I are planning to make an event out of next year’s.
I know several people from this board were there, and much more involved than I was; I was hoping to see a thread already started, but decided I’d jump the line and get one started. And I really, really hope that anyone else who attended will jump in and add to the party; I wasn’t there nearly long enough to see everything, and I, too, want to see what I missed.
Thank you again to those posting their steampunk experiences, and for suggesting this con. I really, really enjoyed it. I kept commenting that this was so much more fun than the SCA because ‘nobody can tell you you’re doing it wrong’, and it seems that there are, in fact, some folk with…rigid attitudes…about the whole thing, but really. Nobody can tell you you’re doing it wrong without sounding like a jackass. There. That’s more accurate.
I have a couple of links, for those interested or just bored. (Yes, I do know how to do the url thing, but prefer to leave links uncovered so people can see what they are clicking on, in case they have reservations.)
First, the official website: http://www.gaslightgathering.org/
Second, a nice little honest review over on the Convention Fans Blog: Gaslight Gathering 2011 Convention Report ‘ The Convention Fans Blog
And thirdly, a link to my sweetie’s flickr page for the event. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jarvssen/sets/72157626685923110/
People were wonderful regarding allowing photos; also, at the end of the Convention Fans Blog, there is another flickr page with their pics, too.
Can’t wait for next year
