gasoline is cheaper than water

Am I the only one that realizes how ridiculously cheap gasoline is? I always hear people complaining about the price of gas, but think about it. Your buying a fuel of limited resource which is highly refined and is still less in price than bottled water (in the U.S. at least). Not to mention the fact that it costs alot of money to find it, drill for it, and pump it out of the ground.

Am I alone on this one?

Here its only 107. It hasn’t been that cheap since about 3 or more years ago. I have no idea why its so low

My local supermarket now sells ice cubes at £0.40p ($0.60) per kilogram.

1kg is approximately 2.2lb and 1 pint of ice weighs 1.25lb or 0.57kg, hopefully. Therefore 1 gallon of ice weighs 4.56kg and costs £1.82 ($2.73).

Petrol (gasoline) costs £3.18 ($4.77) per gallon in the UK, making it more expensive than ice by a factor of 1.75.

Which is a roundabout way of saying that, gasoline-wise anyway, things could be a lot worse for people in the US.

duffman is correct. Stop complaining.

Maybe it’s the volume of gas that makes it cheaper. I can imagine that as a country, we consume way more gas than bottled water. They can sell more gas, so they can make it cheaper.

I don’t drink bottled water, I think it’s a ripoff. I buy Gatorade instead.

It was about $.80 about two years ago here (Raleigh, NC) I think. I remember 'cause my mom tells me “put $15 in it” or whatever, but I only got to about $12 before it was full. So the bastard started stopping itself (y’know, the handle’ll click itself down). Of course, I neglected to consider that it may have been human error. So I kept clicking and clicking and clicking, till eventually gas started splashing out of the tank onto me. Kinda figured it out then :).

You must be talking about some fancy name brand water. I can buy local spring water, which tastes just as good for less than half a dollar per gallon.

However, in general you’re right. Gas is very cheap in the US compared to other parts of the world. Right now its about $1.35 here.

Gasoline may be cheaper than water, but water doesn’t leave that weird aftertaste, pain, and loss of consciousness.

Here in LA, an Arco station relatively close to where I live has unleaded gas for $0.99.

All I can is “Woooo!”.

There was a price war between two adjacent gas stations here in Dayton last week. It got down to 10 cents a gallon. (I’m not making this up.) Cars were backed up for miles.
