This individual has quoted the entire last post of the person before his/her in bold and then added a Wally(putz) smiley to the end.

Please enlighten me, I seem to be missing your point.
Ah, now that did not work as well as I hoped but if you, the assembled, inspect **Gaspoda’s ** posts in GQ I’m sure you will see what I’m so perplxed about.
All (or almost all, I didn’t look through every one) were threads he had reponded to when they were new. Looks like none of the threads were current, but ranged from a week old to several months old. In threads where someone had disagreed with him, he quoted their post; in threads where no one had, he quoted the OP. Either way, the only thing he added in any of them was the putz smiley.
Unless I’m reading this post wrong, you’re confusing Gaspode (recently registered respectable poster) with Gaspoda (unoriginal name-copycat troll). Notice the last letter of the name.
Perhaps the pathetic poster imitators are trying to make a comeback. But since we’ve made it harder to make screen names look identical, they’ll be more obvious this time around.

Don’t think the ID is right, Gaspode. While I may share some of your opinions about your friend, it’s not his style. I think your troll (not a true troll, just a prankster, as I don’t believe it ever actually said anything) just picked your name opportunistically, as it posted to the “What does your username mean?” thread shortly after you did.

Well, der. Have you actually read gaspode’s disclaimer about watering and feeding the personal troll? And is it actually a troll? It looks an awful lot like a bot to me…
I apologise for trying to introduce any humour or sarcasm to this situation. I was totally aware that the rules I posted related to gremlins and not trolls. Next time we have a rampant troll on the board I’ll post the laws of robotics - K?
Only the mods can actually answer the question of whether Gaspode’s shadow’s ISP resolves to peace. I’m pretty much guessing that it doesn’t - combining a silent bob plus a wally trademark is - IMHO - way beyond the imagination of someone like peace or JDT.
A bot is an automated script, designed to do something. If I write a program that says “Search the SDMB for any post by Gaspode. When a post is found, quote the post and add a Wally smile. If the post has already been quoted, and a Wally smile added, disregard the last sentence. Check the boards once per day.” I’ve just designed my own bot. One place you find a lot of bots are on IRC, to help moderate…they can respond to requests for information, ban users, etc.
While I don’t want to continue to feed a troll thread, I mention this to only to help dispel speculation that the troll was intentionally harassing Gaspode, and avoid exacerbating anyone ongoing flame wars (as much as I’m enjoying them). The troll also hit a lot of ancient threads that had been responded to by Cecil Adams, and evidently had searched out that user name since most had been long dormant (some more than a year before Gaspode even registered). I believe it hit a lot of Gaspode’s threads coincidently because it responded to a series of adjacent threads in GQ, where Gaspode has been posting a lot lately, but it also might have searched them out. Mostly it seemed to just quote the first post, add a wally and move on. It was extremely juvenile behavior. However, a bot is also possible. Either that or a 10-year old girl.
Sorry if this disappoints you Gaspode. After all you’re in the same boat as Cecil himself. And don’t let that “respected poster” business go to your head.
